Brendan Dugan (musician)
Brendan Dugan (born 29 February 1952) is a New Zealand musician. Early life Dugan's career began in 1968 at the age of sixteen, when he appeared on the television show '' New Faces'' and won the talent contest. Career He subsequently released three albums for the British record label HMV before pairing with Gray Bartlett to make two singles. Dugan was later contracted to perform for US troops in Army bases throughout South-East Asia and later for the New Zealand Tourism Board to promote New Zealand in theatres throughout America. Dugan became a household name in New Zealand in the 1980s, starring on the television show ''That's Country''. He was named New Zealand Entertainer of the Year in 1985. In 1990 Dugan, Bartlett and Jodi Vaughan reunited for the ''Together Again'' album on Festival and tour. The album hit number one and the tour was at the time the most successful ever in New Zealand. New Faces (Australian TV Series)
''New Faces'' was an Australian talent show that preceded the British show of the same name, produced at GTV-9 Melbourne. The program began in 1963 under the name ''Kevin Dennis Auditions'', sponsored by the new car dealership, Kevin Dennis Motors, which was run by Kevin Dennis ( Dennis Gowing), who was also a well known face on Australian TV from his catchy 'Update' TV Commercials in the 1960s–70s, which were featured during the breaks of the popular show. The program ran on Saturday mornings. The program name soon changed to ''Kevin Dennis New Faces'', and later simply ''New Faces'', becoming a Sunday night prime time show. His Master's Voice
His Master's Voice (HMV) was the name of a major British record label created in 1901 by The Gramophone Co. Ltd. The phrase was coined in the late 1890s from the title of a painting by English artist Francis Barraud, which depicted a Jack Russell Terrier dog named Nipper listening to a wind-up disc gramophone and tilting his head. In the original, unmodified 1898 painting, the dog was listening to a cylinder phonograph. The painting was also famously used as the trademark and logo of the Victor Talking Machine Company, later known as RCA Victor. In the 1970s, an award was created which is a copy of the statue of the dog and gramophone, ''His Master's Voice'', cloaked in bronze, and was presented by the record company (EMI) to artists, music producers and composers in recognition of selling more than 1,000,000 recordings. Graham Neil Bartlett (born 22 July 1942), generally known as Gray Bartlett, is a New Zealand born guitarist, country music performer, producer, talent mentor, tour promoter and entrepreneur. Biography Early life He was born in Auckland and attended Auckland Grammar School. Aged fifteen he joined a local band called The Phantoms and was signed to Zodiac Records in 1961. Career Bartlett had a major hit record in Japan in 1965 with "La Playa", which featured in the Billboard music industry charts for ten weeks. He has sold over 410,000 singles and over 300,000 albums in Japan. He was presented with the first ever NZ International Gold Disc, presented in March 1968 for "La Playa". The Variety Artists Club of New Zealand Inc (VAC) is a non-for-profit organisation and show business club. It was founded in 1966 and became an incorporated society in 1972.
