''Breakaway'' is the second solo album by English singer Kim Appleby, released in 1993 on Parlophone Records. It includes the singles " Light of the World", which reached number 41 in the UK Singles Chart, and "Breakaway", which reached number 56. The album only received a limited release and it failed to chart. It is Appleby's last studio album to date. Kim Appleby
Kim Loraine Appleby (born 28 August 1961) is an English singer, songwriter, and actress. She participated in the duo Mel and Kim, with her sister Melanie Appleby, until her sister's death from pneumonia following treatment for cancer. Solo music career Kim released her first solo album ''Kim Appleby'', in November 1990. The album included songs co-written with Mel for what was intended to be the next "Mel and Kim" album, alongside other songs that Kim had composed following Mel's death. One of these songs, "Don't Worry", was selected as the first single, and reached number two in the British charts in November 1990, as well as being a hit in Europe. As a result, "Don't Worry" was nominated for an Ivor Novello Award for Best Contemporary Song in 1991. A follow up single "G.L.A.D." was a UK No. 10 hit. "Light of the World" is a song by English singer-songwriter Kim Appleby, released in July 1993 by Parlophone as the first single from the singer's second solo album, '' Breakaway'' (1993). Appleby co-wrote the song with her producers Neal Slateford and Neil Davidge. It reached number 41 on the UK Singles Chart in July 1993, but was more successful on the UK Dance Singles Chart, peaking at number 15. Additionally, it charted in Germany (58), spending a total of 7 weeks on the German singles chart, and in Australia (137). Its black-and-white music video was directed by Tim Royes and Russell Young, and released on 19 July 1993. The video was shot on 35mm and made as a stylish close-up performance film. Melanie Appleby
Melanie Susan "Mel" Appleby (11 July 1966 – 18 January 1990) was one half of the 1980s English duo Mel and Kim. They had a number one hit on the UK Singles Chart in March 1987, with the song " Respectable". Career Appleby was born in Hackney, London, to a Jamaican father and a British mother. She initially worked as a glamour model, before joining her sister Kim Appleby to form Mel and Kim. The duo enjoyed considerable chart success in the late 1980s, achieving four UK top ten hits, including the number one " Respectable" (1987), while their debut album, '' F.L.M.'' (1987) spent 25 weeks on the UK chart and was certified platinum in the UK. Craig Logan (born 22 April 1969) is a Scottish musician, songwriter, and manager. He began his career as bassist in the pop band Bros. Career In early 1989, Logan left Bros to focus on songwriting and producing. Kim Appleby's song " Don't Worry", which he co-wrote with Appleby (who he also managed) and George Deangelis, was nominated for an Ivor Novello Award in the 'Best Contemporary Song' category in 1991.
