Brazil vs. Exeter City F.C. was the first match involving the Brazil national football team. The match was part of the Exeter City tour of South America where the team played against Argentine and Brazilian teams, just like other British clubs toured before and after during the first years of football in the region. History The match was played on July 21, 1914 on the field of Fluminense FC, located at Rua das Laranjeiras, in a high class area on the south side of Rio de Janeiro. Brazil played Exeter City, then a third tier club in England, who were touring South America. The newly formed Brazilian Sports Federation ( pt, Federação Brazileira de Sports), FBS, brought together the best players in Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo. John Fort (15 April 1888 – 23 November 1965) was an English professional footballer who played most of his career (as a right back) with Millwall. He also made one appearance for England. Career Jack Fort was born in Leigh, Lancashire, where he played youth football with St Andrew's Mission in the Bolton and District League. He began his professional career with Atherton in the Lancashire Combination in 1907, before moving to the South Coast to join Southern League Exeter City in 1911. In his three seasons at Exeter, they finished each season in a mid-table position. Xavier Camargo (9 March 1895 – 30 July 1974), known as Formiga, was a Brazilian footballer. He played in five matches for the Brazil national football team in 1922. He was also part of Brazil's squad for the 1922 South American Championship. Career Formiga was born on March 9, 1895, in São Paulo. He started his football career at Paulistano's youth team. After a disagreement with the club's board, he went to play for Ypiranga, where he made his debut in 1912.
