''Brassiantha hedraiantheroides'' is a species of Australian understory shrubs or small trees, constituting part of the plant family Celastraceae. In 2012 botanist Andrew J. Ford formally scientifically named and described them as the first recognised Australian species of the genus ''Brassiantha''. ''Hedraianthera'' is a genus of a sole recognised species of shrubs or small trees endemic to Australia from the family Celastraceae. The species ''Hedraianthera porphyropetala'' grows naturally in eastern Australia in littoral or sub-tropical rainforest north from Ballina, New South Wales to Cooktown in tropical northeastern Queensland. They grow in gullies or rocky slopes on shallow soils, sometimes enhanced by basalt. The generic name ''Hedraianthera'' is from Greek, it refers to the flower anthers without stalks. The specific epithet ''porphyropetala'' is also from Greek, it alludes to the attractive deep purple coloured flowers, although the species definition includes plants which have different coloured flowers such as green. They are an unusually southern example of ramiflory. Celastraceae
The Celastraceae (staff-vine or bittersweet) are a family of 97 genera and 1,350 species of herbs, vines, shrubs and small trees, belonging to the order Celastrales. The great majority of the genera are tropical, with only ''Celastrus'' (the staff vines), ''Euonymus'' (the spindles) and ''Maytenus'' widespread in temperate climates, and ''Parnassia'' (bog-stars) found in alpine and arctic climates. Of the 97 currently recognized genera of the family Celastraceae, 19 are native to Madagascar and these include at least 57 currently recognized species. Australian Tropical Rainforest Plants, also known as RFK, is an identification key giving details—including images, taxonomy, descriptions, range, habitat, and other information—of almost all species of flowering plants (i.e. trees, shrubs, vines, forbs, grasses and sedges, epiphytes, palms and pandans) found in tropical rainforests of Australia, with the exception of most orchids which are treated in a separate key called Australian Tropical Rainforest Orchids (see External links section).
