Brasseur Family
The Brasseur family is a family in Luxembourg that was prominent in politics and industry in the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. The head of the household was Alexis Brasseur, who had thirteen children by two wives. This second generation included Dominique Brasseur, a liberal Mayor of Luxembourg City and Pierre Brasseur, who was a prominent mining magnate in southern Luxembourg. Pierre married the daughter of former minister François-Xavier Wurth-Paquet, and had five children, including Xavier Brasseur, a Socialist member of the Chamber of Deputies. Xavier married Jeane de Saint-Hubert, sister of Aline Mayrisch de Saint-Hubert - wife of Arbed President Émile Mayrisch. Dominique Brasseur
Dominique Alexis Brasseur-Brasseur (14 June 1833 – 17 October 1906) was a Luxembourgian politician and jurist. He served as Mayor of Luxembourg City between 1891 and 1894. Brasseur was educated at the Athénée de Luxembourg, Athénée, graduating in 1853, before studying law at University of Heidelberg, Heidelberg and Ghent University, Ghent.Mersch (1959), p. 77 Receiving his degree on 11 October 1858, he was call to the bar, called to the bar on 17 October 1861. Pierre Brasseur (Luxembourg)
Pierre Brasseur (21 January 1832 – 7 February 1918) was a Luxembourgian entrepreneur, businessman, and mining magnate, being involved in founding a number of industrial concerns in southern Luxembourg. Amongst them was one of the steel companies that would become ARBED, and, after many mergers and consolidations, Arcelor Mittal. Early life Pierre was a member of the Brasseur family, born the eleventh son of Alexis Brasseur in Esch-sur-Alzette. François-Xavier Wurth-Paquet
François-Xavier Wurth-Paquet (16 April 1801 – 4 February 1885) was a Luxembourgian politician, jurist, and archaeologist. Born in Luxembourg City, he studied law in Liège and then became a lawyer, judge, prosecutor and in 1848 president of the Superior Court. From 1845 to 1848 he was a member of the Assembly of Estates. He was elected to represent the canton of Esch-sur-Alzette on the Constituent Assembly, in 1848. François Xavier Brasseur (19 October 1865 – 4 July 1912) was a Luxembourgian politician and jurist. Brasseur was educated at the Athénée de Luxembourg, graduating in 1884. Aline Mayrisch de Saint-Hubert née de Saint-Hubert (22 August 1874 – 20 January 1947) was a Luxembourg women's rights campaigner, socialite, philanthropist. Jacob Émile Albert Mayrisch (10 October 1862 – 5 March 1928) was a Luxembourgian industrialist and businessman. He served as president of Arbed. He was married to Aline de Saint-Hubert, who was a famous women's rights campaigner, socialite and philanthropist, and was President of the Luxembourg Red Cross. He died in a car accident at Châlons-sur-Marne, in France, in 1928. Life Émile Mayrisch's father was Edouard Mayrisch, a doctor at court, and his mother was Mathilde Metz, the daughter of Adolf Metz, and niece of Norbert Metz, an industrialist at Eich and Dommeldange, and a government minister.
