Brantford
Brantford (Canada 2021 Census, 2021 population: 104,688) is a city in Ontario, Canada, founded on the Grand River (Ontario), Grand River in Southwestern Ontario. It is surrounded by County of Brant, Brant County, but is politically separate with a municipal government of its own that is fully independent of the county's municipal government. Brantford is situated on the Haldimand Tract, traditional territory of the Neutral Nation, Neutral, Mississaugas, Mississauga, and Haudenosaunee peoples. The city is named after Joseph Brant, an important Mohawk leader, soldier, farmer and slave owner. Brant was an important Loyalist (American Revolution), Loyalist leader during the American Revolutionary War and later, after the Haudenosaunee moved to the Brantford area in Upper Canada. Many of his descendants, and other First Nations in Canada, First Nations people, live on the nearby Six Nations of the Grand River reserve south of Brantford; it is the most populous reserve in Canada. Brantford (federal Electoral District)
Brantford was a federal electoral district in Ontario, Canada, that was represented in the House of Commons of Canada from 1904 to 1925 and from 1949 to 1968. The riding was first created in 1903 from parts of Brant South riding. It consisted initially of the city of Brantford, the township of Oakland, and the part of the township of Brantford south and west of the Grand River. The electoral district was abolished in 1924 when it was merged into Brantford City riding. It was recreated in 1947 from parts of Brant and Brantford City ridings. The second incarnation consisted initially of the city of Brantford, the townships of Burford and Oakland and the part of the township of Brantford lying south and west of the left bank of Grand River, in the county of Brant. In 1952, it was redefined to include a part of the township of Brantford lying to the east of the city Brantford. The electoral district was abolished in 1966 when it was merged into Brant riding. HMCS Brantford
HMCS ''Brantford'' was a that served in the Royal Canadian Navy during the Second World War. She served primarily as a convoy escort in the Battle of the Atlantic. She was named for Brantford, Ontario. Background Flower-class corvettes like ''Brantford'' serving with the Royal Canadian Navy during the Second World War were different from earlier and more traditional sail-driven corvettes. The "corvette" designation was created by the French as a class of small warships; the Royal Navy borrowed the term for a period but discontinued its use in 1877. During the hurried preparations for war in the late 1930s, Winston Churchill reactivated the corvette class, needing a name for smaller ships used in an escort capacity, in this case based on a whaling ship design. The generic name "flower" was used to designate the class of these ships, which – in the Royal Navy – were named after flowering plants. Mickey Brantford (26 March 1911 – 18 October 1984) was an English actor and film production manager . Mickey Brantford was born Michael Richard Henry Comerford into a theatrical family, in London.
