Brain Of Britain
''Brain of Britain'' is a BBC radio general knowledge quiz, broadcast on BBC Radio 4. History It began as a slot in ''What Do You Know?'' in 1953. The main part of the show was the "Brain of Britain" quiz itself, originally called "Ask Me Another". There were also several other quizzes on the show, most of which were eventually sidelined to allow "Brain of Britain" a longer running time, though the popular write-in competition "Beat the Brains" is still played as part of ''Brain of Britain'' today. It became a programme in its own right in 1967. It was chaired by Franklin Engelmann until his death in 1972. Format Four contestants compete on each programme, in alphabetical order by surname. To begin the competition, the first contestant is asked a question; a correct answer within 10 seconds awards one point and control for the next question. Pat Gibson
Patrick Gibson (born 19 July 1961) is an Irish quizzer. On 24 April 2004 he became the fourth contestant to win the £1m jackpot on the quiz show ''Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?''. He is a multiple world champion in quizzing and one of the world's most successful quiz players. He is best known for winning several quiz shows and being a panellist on '' Eggheads''. He was born, raised and educated in Ireland but currently lives in the United Kingdom and competes as part of the England quiz team. Christopher Hughes (quiz Contestant)
Christopher John Hughes (born 14 August 1947) is an English television personality and one of Britain's leading quizzers. Biography Hughes was born in Enfield, Middlesex, and educated at Enfield Grammar School. He worked as a train driver and railway worker. He has been a winner of ''Mastermind'' (1983), ''International Mastermind'' (1983) and ''Brain of Britain'', 2005. He is one of only seven people ever to have won both ''Mastermind'' and ''Brain of Britain'', the others being Roger Pritchard, Kevin Ashman, Pat Gibson, Geoff Thomas, Ian Bayley, and Clive Dunning. Daphne Fowler (''née'' Bradshaw, previously Hudson; born 5 January 1939) is a British game show champion who has taken part in many televised game shows. ''The Independent'' is a British online newspaper. It was established in 1986 as a national morning printed paper. Bob Crampsey
Robert Anthony Crampsey (8 July 1930 – 27 July 2008) was a Scottish association football historian, author, broadcaster and teacher, described as a "much loved Scottish cultural institution" by ''The Times''. Early life and career Crampsey was born in Glasgow. A graduate of the University of Glasgow, Associate of the Royal College of Music and former Head Teacher of St. Ambrose High School in Coatbridge, Lanarkshire. Crampsey was 1965's 'Brain of Britain'. Elsie Irene Ready (28 June 1920 – 27 March 2001) was a British radio personality, well known for her participation in quiz shows and panel games from the 1960s until shortly before her death. Early life and education Thomas was born in Feltham, Middlesex into a working-class family, the daughter of Edmund R Ready, a clarinetist in a military band. Her mother, born Ethel E. Crapnell, worked as a seamstress for 'Frederick Gorringe Limited', a large department store on Buckingham Palace Road. She attended Spelthorne College, Ashford County Grammar School where she was considered to have the potential to win a scholarship to the University of Oxford, but she left at fifteen to work as a clerk at the Inland Revenue. ''Eggheads'' is a British quiz show produced by 12 Yard. It was first broadcast in November 2003 chaired by Dermot Murnaghan. In 2008, Jeremy Vine became joint chair, and subsequently sole chair. The show has inspired three spinoff series: ''Are You an Egghead?'' (2008), ''Revenge of the Egghead'' (2014) and '' Make Me an Egghead'' (2016).
