Boxing At The 2004 Summer Olympics – Middleweight
The middleweight boxing competition at the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens was held from 14 to 28 August at Peristeri Olympic Boxing Hall. This is limited to those boxers weighing between 69 and 75 kilograms. Competition format Like all Olympic boxing events, the competition was a straight single-elimination tournament. This event consisted of 28 boxers who have qualified for the competition through various tournaments held in 2003 and 2004. The competition began with a preliminary round on 14 August, where the number of competitors was reduced to 16, and concluded with the final on 28 August. As there were fewer than 32 boxers in the competition, a number of boxers received a bye through the preliminary round. Both semi-final losers were awarded bronze medals. All bouts consisted of four rounds of two minutes each, with one-minute breaks between rounds. Peristeri Olympic Boxing Hall
The Peristeri Olympic Boxing Hall is an indoor arena that is located in Peristeri, west Athens. The hall was the site of the boxing events at the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens, Greece. The venue originally seated 8,400, though it had a public capacity of only 5,600 for the 2004 Olympics. History After the 2004 Summer Olympics, the indoor facility was partially converted into a 3,000 seat outdoor football pitch. This lowered the seating capacity of the indoor arena from 8,400 to 2,305. The indoor arena has since been mainly used for gymnastics competitions, and at times to host basketball games of the Greek club Peristeri. Marian Simion (born 14 September 1975 in București) is a Romanian boxer, who competed in the Light Middleweight (71 kg) at the 2000 Summer Olympics and won the silver medal. He repeated that feat one year later, at the 2001 World Amateur Boxing Championships in Belfast after having won the world title at the previous tournament in Houston, Texas, United States. Hassan N'Dam N'Jikam (born 18 February 1984) is a French Cameroonian professional boxer. He has held a middleweight world championship twice, including the WBO title in 2012 and the WBA (Regular) title in 2017, and has challenged once for a super-middleweight world title in 2019. Andy Lee (born 11 June 1984) is an Irish former professional boxer who competed from 2006 to 2017. He held the WBO middleweight title from 2014 to 2015, and in doing so became the first member of the travelling community to win a major world title. Jean-Thenistor Pascal (born 28 October 1982) is a Haitian-born Canadian professional boxer.
