The men's light middleweight event was part of the boxing programme at the 1976 Summer Olympics. The weight class allowed boxers of up to 71 kilograms to compete. Maurice Richard Arena
Maurice Richard Arena (french: Aréna Maurice-Richard) is a 4,750-seat multi-purpose arena at Olympic Park, Montreal, Olympic Park in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. It was built in 1962. It is named in honour of Maurice Richard. The rink was renovated in 1994, the arena includes a multi-media exhibition on the life of the Montreal Canadiens great. Entrance to the arena is free and there is a souvenir shop onsite. Formerly home to the Montreal Rocket, the ice rink is also used for training by speed and figure skaters. It can host corporate events, with banquet seating for up to 2,000. Robert Davies (boxer)
Robbie Davies (10 December 1949 – 4 August 2017) was a British professional boxer. Amateur career Davies represented England in the light-middleweight division at the 1974 Commonwealth Games, winning a bronze medal. He represented Great Britain in the men's light-middleweight event at the 1976 Summer Olympics, beating Wayne Devlin of Australia in his opening fight, before losing to Alfredo Lemus of Venezuela in the next round. In 1977, Davies won the ABA middleweight title, after beating Mike Shone. Professional career Davies made his professional debut on 8 September 1977, at the Liverpool Stadium, beating Joe Hannaford. Michael Prevost
Michael Prevost (born June 5, 1953 on a Canadian military base in Hameln, Germany) is a retired amateur boxer, who represented Canada at the 1976 Summer Olympics. There he was disqualified (for holding while looking at the clock to determine how much time remained) in his first fight against Vasile Didea of Romania by an Australian referee. On being disqualified, he stomped around the ring for several minutes and would not leave. The referee was also later disqualified when he was found with a suspicious amount of money, that was not in his possession when entering Canada. Franz Dorfer
Franz Dorfer (20 May 1950 – 8 January 2012) was an Austrian professional boxer who competed in the middleweight division. As an amateur he won the bronze medal at the 1975 European Championships and competed at the 1976 Olympics, where he was eliminated in the first bout, by Iranian boxer Mohamed Azarhazin. After the Olympics he turned professional and competed in 36 bouts between 1977 and 1986, winning 23 of them. Early life Dorfer was born to a family of farmers, and was trained as a cheesemaker in his youth. Later, in early 1970 he completed his military service in Sankt Pölten, and studied to become a gendarmerie in Mödling in 1971.
