Boxing At The 2020 Summer Olympics – Women's Flyweight
The women's flyweight boxing event at the 2020 Summer Olympics took place between 25 July and 7 August 2021 at the Ryōgoku Kokugikan. 26 boxers from 26 nations competed. Background This will be the 3rd appearance of the women's flyweight event. The event has been held every Summer Games since the introduction of women's boxing in 2012. It has been at the 48–51 kg range each appearance. Reigning World Champion Liliya Aetbaeva of Russia has not qualified for the Games, but bantamweight World Champion Huang Hsiao-wen has dropped down to this weight class and qualified for the Games. The 2016 Olympic champion, Nicola Adams of Great Britain, turned professional and did not attempt to qualify. Qualification A National Olympic Committee (NOC) could enter only 1 qualified boxer in the weight class. Ryōgoku Kokugikan
, also known as Ryōgoku Sumo Hall or Kokugikan Arena, is the name bestowed to two different indoor sporting arenas located in Tokyo. The fist ''Ryōgoku Kokugikan'' opened its doors in 1909 and was located on the lands of the Ekōin temple in Ryōgoku, Tokyo. Although no sumo bouts were held after 1945, following the capitulation of Japan and the requisition of the building by the occupying forces, the building itself remained active until 1983, being notably used by the Nihon University. The second ''Ryōgoku Kokugikan'' is currently located in the Yokoami neighborhood of Sumida next to the Edo-Tokyo Museum. It opened in 1985, following the closure of the Kuramae Kokugikan, and is still in use today. Mandy Marie Brigitte Bujold (born 25 July 1987) is a Canadian former amateur boxer. She won gold medals in the women's flyweight category at the 2011 and 2015 Pan American Games and won a bronze medal at the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.
