Boxers De Bordeaux
The Boxers de Bordeaux (Bordeaux Boxers) are a France, French ice hockey team currently playing in Ligue Magnus. The team was founded in 1974, and were promoted to the top tier of French ice hockey in 2015. History The team was founded in 1974 as the Bordeaux Hockey Club, and operated with the nickname Dogue de Bordeaux, Dogues de Bordeaux until 1988. The team was later known as the Girondins de Bordeaux from 1988 to 1992, as the Aquitains de Bordeaux from 1992 to 1995, and reverted to Dogues de Bordeaux from 1995 to 1998. The team has used the nickname Boxers de Bordeaux since 1998. Patrick Francheterre served as the team's player-coach from the 1984–85 season until he retired in the 1988–89 season. He later served as the team's president from 1999 to 2001. The Ligue Magnus, currently known as Synerglace Ligue Magnus for sponsorship reasons, is the top men's division of the French ice hockey pyramid, established in 1906. The league operated under a variety of names before taking that of its championship trophy, the Magnus Cup, in 2004. The trophy was in turn named for Frenchman and IIHF founder Louis Magnus. Format 12 teams play a 44-game regular season. The schedule is fully balanced and there are no geographic conferences. Regulation wins are worth 3 points, as per international rules. The top 8 teams qualify for the Magnus Cup playoffs, with all series contested in a best-of-seven format. The Dogue de Bordeaux, Bordeaux Mastiff, French Mastiff or Bordeauxdog is a large French mastiff breed. A typical brachycephalic mastiff breed, the Bordeaux is a very powerful dog, with a very muscular body. This muscular breed has been put to work pulling carts, transporting heavy objects, and guarding flocks. History The Dogue de Bordeaux was known in France as early as the 14th century, particularly in southern France in the region around Bordeaux. Hence, the city lent its name to this large dog. Patrick Francheterre
Patrick Francheterre (born 19 November 1948) is a French retired ice hockey player, coach, manager and international administrator. His playing career included time with CPM Croix and Dogues de Bordeaux as a player-coach and with the France men's national ice hockey team at the Ice Hockey World Championships and the 1968 Winter Olympics. After retiring from playing, he served as the head coach of the national team and also served two terms as its general manager. He later became a member of the International Ice Hockey Federation council and was honored with the Paul Loicq Award in 2017 for contributions to international ice hockey.
