Box Of Dub
''Box of Dub'' is a 2007 compilation album released by Soul Jazz Records in 2007. It features music of the contemporary dubstep music scene of the period. The album contains exclusive tracks by each artist. Release ''Box of Dub'' was released on compact disc and three-disc vinyl by Soul Jazz Records on May 28, 2007. The album was followed up with ''Box of Dub 2: Dubstep and Future Dub''. Reception From contemporary reviews, Matt Earp of '' XLR8R'' as containing "half of a dozen of the scenes most successful producers" as well as having "great tracks from a few sideline observers." Earp noted that the tracks by Kode9 and Digital Mystikz were introspective while Burial's track "pulls off brilliant-sounding liquid D&B at dubstep tempo." Earp concluded that the biggest surprise was the tracks that came from outsiders such as Jay Haze and Michal Ho as well as Kevin Martin. Scuba (musician)
Paul Rose, usually known as Scuba (also known by his SCB alias), is a British electronic musician, now based in Berlin. Described as 'one of dance music's most inventive producers', he has released five albums, numerous singles and EPs, and a handful of compilation and mix albums. His style has been described as dubstep with a later 'shift toward a brighter and more eclectic approach to production'. In 2013, he won an award for Best Live Act from ''DJ Mag''. Burial (musician)
William Emmanuel Bevan, known by his recording alias Burial, is a British electronic musician from South London. Initially remaining anonymous, Burial became the first artist signed to Kode9's electronic label Hyperdub in 2005. He won acclaim the following year for his self-titled debut album, an influential release in the UK's dubstep scene which showcased a dark, emotive take on UK rave music styles such as UK garage and 2-step; it was named the album of the year by ''The Wire''. Burial's second album, '' Untrue'', was released to further critical acclaim in 2007. In 2008, Bevan's identity was revealed by ''The Independent'' and confirmed by Hyperdub. Sam Shackleton, better known by his stage name Shackleton, is an English electronic producer and founder of the record labels Skull Disco and Woe to the Septic Heart!. History Sam Shackleton was born in Lancashire, England. He participated in various musical projects throughout the years, playing in punk bands as a teenager and later performing as part of a dancehall duo with Earl Fontainelle (aka Vengeance Tenfold). He first began producing music on a computer in 2003. Benga (musician)
Adegbenga Adejumo (born 1986), known as Benga, is a British musician from Croydon, known for being a pioneer of dubstep record production. He has been featured on a variety of compilations including Mary Anne Hobbs's '' Warrior Dubz'', Tempa's ''The Roots of Dubstep'' and the BBC Radio 1Xtra anniversary mix. Career Adejumo is of Yoruba Nigerian descent. Inspired by UK garage producer Wookie, Benga would produce tunes on a PlayStation, and subsequently FruityLoops. As a teenager he would visit the Big Apple record shop in Croydon where he was introduced to Skream, and together they would help forge the sound of dubstep emerging in the early 2000s. His productions caught the attention of DJ Hatcha, who worked at the shop, and, by the age of 15, Benga had made his first record, "Skank", released on Big Apple's own record label in 2002. Horsepower Productions
Horsepower Productions are an English electronic music duo, initially a larger musical collective who released experimental garage recordings, and helped pioneer the dubstep genre. Lineup The group was initially composed of Benny Ill (born Ben Garner), Jay King, Lev Jnr, Nasis and four other members. The eight were closely associated with the influential drum & bass record label No U Turn, and its UK garage-oriented sister label Turn U On. Garner has since collaborated on the seminal "Fat Larry's Skank" track, which has been remixed and re-versioned many times by producers including Kode9, as well as collaborating with Hatcha on a number of tracks, DJing at FWD>>, and releasing more straightforward dub as part of the duo Bill & Ben. Skream
Oliver Dene Jones (born 1 June 1986), known as Skream, is an English electronic music producer based in Croydon. Skream was an early and influential exponent of the dubstep genre. After producing several singles, he released his first full-length album, '' Skream!'', in 2006. Skream and longtime collaborators Artwork and Benga co-founded a music group called Magnetic Man. Their debut album, ''Magnetic Man'' was released in 2010. In July 2011, Jones had his first child, a son. Jones is the brother of jungle DJ Hijak.
