Borough Of Onslow
The Borough of Onslow was a local government district immediately to the north of Wellington, New Zealand. Incorporated on 13 March 1890 it included the districts of: Wadestown, Crofton, Khandallah and Kaiwarra but not Johnsonville. It replaced the Kaiwarra Town Board, the Wellington District Roads Board and a small part of the very wide jurisdiction of the Hutt County Council. Johnsonville Town Board remained independent. Most of the population, in Wadestown, amalgamated with Wellington City in 1907, the rest in 1919. Maintaining Hutt County's roads A major incentive in the formation of the new borough was Hutt County Council's Kaiwarra toll gate set up where traffic moved between Wellington and Hutt County. Wadestown, New Zealand
Wadestown is a northern suburb of Wellington, (the capital city of New Zealand) located about 2–3 km by road from the Wellington central business district and the New Zealand Parliament Buildings. It is a residential suburb overlooking Thorndon and the Ngaio Gorge from the northern flanks of Te Ahumairangi Hill (formerly Tinakori Hill). Ngaio, New Zealand
Ngaio is an inner suburb of Wellington, the capital city of New Zealand. It is situated on the slopes of Mount Kaukau, 3500 metres north of the city's CBD. It was settled in the 1840s and many of its streets are named after early settler families. Ngaio was originally a logging community known first as ''Upper Kaiwarra'', then as ''Crofton'' until 1908. The area was administratively part of a separate local authority called the Onslow Borough Council which amalgamated with Wellington City in 1919. Khandallah
Khandallah is a suburb of Wellington, the capital city of New Zealand. It is located northeast of the city centre, on hills overlooking Wellington Harbour. Description The northeastern part of the suburb is dominated by a large area of parkland, which stretches north towards Johnsonville. Three parks that make up this reserve land total almost of the slopes of Mount Kaukau. Kaiwharawhara
Kaiwharawhara is an urban seaside suburb of Wellington in New Zealand's North Island. It is located north of the centre of the city on the western shore of Wellington Harbour, where the Kaiwharawhara Stream reaches the sea from its headwaters in Karori. It is a largely commercial and industrial area and thus has little residential population. A recent housing development up the hillside towards Te Kainga has increased the resident population. Kaiwharawhara contains some major transport infrastructure. Both State Highway 1 and the North Island Main Trunk railway pass through Kaiwharawhara on their routes from central Wellington northwards. Johnsonville, New Zealand
Johnsonville is a large suburb in northern Wellington, New Zealand. It is seven kilometres north of the city centre, at the top of the Ngauranga Gorge, on the main route to Porirua (State Highway 1). It is commonly known by locals as "J'ville". Hutt County Council
Hutt County was one of the former counties of New Zealand. It occupied the south-western corner of the North Island, extending south from the Waikanae River and lying to the west of the summits of the Rimutaka Ranges. The county's name arises from the fact that a large amount of its land area lies in the Hutt River catchment. The county initially had 8 ridings : Belmont, Epuni, Horokiwi, Makara, Mungaroa, Porirua, Wainui-o-mata and Whareroa. By 1895, each riding elected one councillor, except Porirua, which elected two, to the Hutt County Council. One of the elected councillors was appointed as chairman of the council. Hutt County was administered by the Hutt County Council, which was first established in 1876, but it was eventually dissolved in 1989 when local government was reformed and the few remaining constituent ridings were amalgamated into adjacent cities. Ngauranga Gorge
The Ngauranga Gorge is in the Wellington Region of New Zealand. New Zealand State Highway 1, State Highway 1 runs through the gorge, a vital link between central Wellington, Wellington City and its northern suburbs and Porirua City and the Kapiti Coast; it is the main route north out of Wellington. It is long and has a grade of approximately 8 percent. Sixty-five thousand vehicles a day travel through it, and it connects the Wellington Urban Motorway with the Johnsonville–Porirua Motorway. The name is derived from the former Ngā Hauranga pā at the foot of the gorge. Its spelling was simplified after the World War II, second world war. Hutt Expressway
The Hutt Expressway (often erroneously referred to as the Hutt Motorway) is a 3-4 lane divided highway running from the Wellington Urban Motorway at Ngauranga, past Lower Hutt and central Upper Hutt, to the intersection with Fergusson Drive in Maoribank in north-eastern Upper Hutt. State Highway 2 officially continues north of Maoribank to Te Mārua, Kaitoke, and over the Rimutaka Hill to Wairarapa, but this section is two lanes undivided and is covered in the main State Highway 2 article. Wellington Brass Band
The Wellington Brass Band (Wellington Brass, WBB) is a British-style brass band based in Wellington Wellington ( mi, Te Whanganui-a-Tara or ) is the capital city of New Zealand.
