Pop music is a genre of popular music that originated in its modern form during the mid-1950s in the United States and the United Kingdom. Bradley's Records
Bradley's Records was a UK record label in the mid-1970s. It was founded by ATV Music publishers in 1973 and run by Derek Johns. The label was active for four years with moderate success, but was discontinued in early 1977. Three acts were chosen to launch the label in February 1973: Prog-rock band Kala (an offshoot of Quintessence), Paul Brett and Hunter Muskett. Lack of commercial success caused a re-think and in late 1973 all three original acts departed (Kala were dropped after they refused to change their musical direction and wear glitter and make-up). Stuart Slater, who by now had replaced Johns, began to concentrate on releasing singles by pop artists; a policy that was to provide a number of chart hits. Roger Holman
Roger Holman is a British musician and composer. He is best known for the televised musical ''Smike'', and as the co-writer of Stephanie De Sykes's two hit singles. As a performer, Holman released a 1971 self-produced single with two songs, "Act Like a Man" and "Back On My Feet", both co-written with his writing partner Simon May. The Holman/May duo released a 45 record the following year using the stage name "Sqeek". In 1973, Holman collaborated with Simon May and Clive Barnett to create the musical ''Smike'', which was televised on the BBC. Holman also co-wrote with May the UK top-20 hits for Stephanie De Sykes " Born with a Smile on My Face", which in 1974 peaked at number two, and " We'll Find Our Day", which in 1975 peaked at number 17. In 1975, Holman released another solo effort on EMI Records performing the songs "Laugh, Laugh, Laugh" and "Lay Your Head in the Grass". Simon May
Simon May (born 15 August 1944) is a British composer. He has composed many British television theme tunes, including ''EastEnders'' and ''Howards' Way'', and the music for the 1988 film ''The Dawning''. Biography Born in Devizes and a pupil of Dauntsey's School, May was a choral scholar at Corpus Christi College, Cambridge, where he graduated with a degree in modern languages in 1965. While teaching languages and music at Kingston Grammar School, he co-wrote a musical named ''Smike'' with a colleague, history teacher Clive Barnett and songwriting partner, Roger Holman. Following the publicity ''Smike'' attracted, May was contacted by the BBC, who televised the play in 1973, starring Beryl Reid and Andrew Keir. The Official Charts (legal name: The Official UK Charts Company Limited) is a British inter-professional organization that compiles various "official" record charts in the United Kingdom, Ireland and France. In the United Kingdom, its charts include ones for singles, albums and films, with the data compiled from a mixture of downloads, purchases (of physical media) and streaming.
