Borlänge HF
Borlänge Hockeyförening (literally ''Borlänge Hockey Association'') or Borlänge HF is a Swedish ice hockey club located in Borlänge. The club has origins in IF Tunabro, founded in 1961, which played three seasons in Sweden's top hockey league (then called Division I) from 1971 but in 1974 was demoted to the second tier (then called Division 1) and in 1977 was further demoted to the third tier (then Division 2). This created a situation where three Borlänge teams played in the same league, resulting in a series of mergers ending in 1981. The unified club was given its current name in 1993. Borlänge HF currently plays in the West group of Hockeyettan Hockeyettan is the third tier of ice hockey in Sweden. Borlänge
Borlänge is a locality in Dalarna County, Sweden with 44,898 inhabitants as of 2020. It is the seat of the Borlänge Municipality with a total population of 51,604 inhabitants as of 2017. History Originally Borlänge was the name of a tiny village, and the first historical information about it is from 1390. The village was insignificant up until about 1870. In 1872 the construction of ''Domnarfvets Jernverk'', the ironworks of neighbouring village Domnarvet started. In 1875 a railway between Falun and Ludvika, via Borlänge was inaugurated. Thanks to its railway station the village of Borlänge became highly important in servicing the ironworks. Hockeyettan is the third tier of ice hockey in Sweden. As of the 2015–16 Hockeyettan season, 2015–16 season, the league consists of 46 teams divided geographically into four groups. Hockeyettan operates a system of promotion and relegation with HockeyAllsvenskan and Division 2 (Swedish ice hockey), Division 2. From 1944 to 1975, Division I was the highest league in the Swedish ice hockey system, but with the creation of Swedish Hockey League, Elitserien (now the SHL) in 1975, it became the second tier. Division I was further relegated to third-tier status in 1999 as HockeyAllsvenskan was spun off into a standalone league, but was frequently written as "Division 1" on the Internet, as it was pronounced "Division One".
