Bongo District
Bongo District is one of the fifteen districts in Upper East Region, Ghana. Originally created as an ordinary district assembly in 1988; which was established by Legislative Instrument (L.I.) 1446. The municipality is located in the central part of Upper East Region and has Bongo as its capital town. Geography and climate Geography Bongo District is near the town of Bolgatanga, the Upper East Region's capital. It shares borders with Kassena-Nankana District in the west and the Bolgatanga Municipal District in the south. The total area is 459 square kilometers. Climate The area is generally flat with occasional outcrops of rocks at an elevation of 200 m. The landscape has little vegetation. Progress Party (Ghana)
The Progress Party (PP) was the ruling party in Ghana during the Second Republic (1969–1972). In the 29 August 1969 elections, the PP won 105 of the National Assembly's 140 seats. The party was co-founded in 1969 by Kofi Abrefa Busia, who was born as a Bono prince in the traditional kingdom of Wenchi, and by Lawyer Sylvester Kofi Williams, who was born as an Ahanta prince, and a descendant of the Ahanta King Badu Bonsu II. Kofi Abrefa Busia led the Party, and became the 2nd Prime Minister on 3 September 1969. 2008 Ghanaian Parliamentary Election
General elections were held in Ghana on 7 December 2008. Since no candidate received more than 50% of the votes, a run-off election was held on 28 December 2008 between the two candidates who received the most votes, Nana Akufo-Addo of the governing New Patriotic Party and John Atta Mills of the opposition National Democratic Congress. Mills was certified as the victor by a margin of less than one percent, winning the presidency on his third attempt. It is to date the closest election in Ghanaian history. Background On 21 December 2006, former Vice-President John Atta Mills, who unsuccessfully ran as the National Democratic Congress (NDC) presidential candidate in 2000 and 2004, was overwhelmingly elected by NDC as its candidate for the 2008 presidential election. The election of Members of Parliament (MPs) to the 7th Parliament of the Fourth Republic was held on 7 December 2016. The Speaker is not an elected member of parliament though he/she is qualified to stand for election as such. There are a total of 275 constituencies in Ghana. 45 new constituencies were created prior to the 2012 election. Albert Abongo
Albert Abongo (born September 15, 1959) is a Ghanaian politician and civil engineer. Abongo is from the Bongo District near the city of Bolgatanga, Upper East Region and is a member of the National Democratic Congress and the Member of Parliament for Bongo. Early life and education Albert Abongo was born in 1959 at Gowrie-Bongo in the Upper East Region of Ghana. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in civil engineering from the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology in 1986. He also attended University of Trondheim in Norway and studied Ports and Coastal Engineering in 1992. He worked as a civil engineer with the Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority prior to entering politics. He is a Christian and married with seven children. Career Abongo is an engineer by profession. People's National Convention (Ghana)
The People's National Convention is a political party in Ghana. After constitutional rule was restored back in Ghana in 1992 the party was formed by former President Hilla Limann based on ideals from the People's National Party (Ghana) which he led in the 1979 elections and won.
