Bodybuilding At The 1981 World Games
Medal events in both men's (4) and women's (2) bodybuilding were included in 1981 World Games, World Games I. They were held on July 30–31, 1981, at the San Jose Center for the Performing Arts in San Jose, California. The 1981 Games were the first World Games, an international quadrennial multi-sport event, and were held in California's Santa Clara Valley. In the bodybuilding competition, the preliminary rounds featured two-on-two competition. Point scoring was based on mandatory posing (front, back and side poses) and optional posing determined by the athlete. 26 of the countries at these Games participated in bodybuilding, making it one of the most represented sports. Gary Francis Leonard (born February 16, 1967) is an American former professional basketball player. At 7'1" and 295 lbs, he played center. Leonard played college basketball for the Missouri Tigers before being selected with the 34th pick in the 1989 NBA draft by the Minnesota Timberwolves. In the NBA, Leonard played three seasons for the Timberwolves and the Atlanta Hawks. College career In 1989, Leonard emerged as one of the leading centers available for the 1989 NBA draft with a strong senior season at the University of Missouri, posting career highs in points (10.4 ppg) and rebounds (5.5 rpg), shooting .593 from the field and totalling 42 blocked shots. ''Madeline'' is a media franchise that originated as a series of children's books written and illustrated by Ludwig Bemelmans, an Austrian-American author. The books have been adapted into numerous formats, spawning telefilms, television series and a live action feature film. Kay Baxter (October 3, 1945 – May 16, 1988) was a pioneer female bodybuilder. Baxter competed in women's bodybuilding from 1979 to 1986, competing in four IFBB Ms. Olympia competitions between 1982 and 1985. She was inspirational for many up-and-coming female bodybuilders, especially those who desired a physique that would be large and muscular even by bodybuilding standards. She was a groundbreaker in making wrestling videos and short action movies that catered to fans of women's bodybuilding, as well as appearing in the 1985 ''Billboard'' top 3 song " California Girls", by David Lee Roth whom she trained and dated. Carla Dunlap-Kaan (born October 22, 1954) is a professional American female bodybuilding champion. Early life and education Dunlap was born in 1954, in Newark, New Jersey. She started competing in sports with gymnastics at age 10. She later competed in swimming, both speed and synchronized. Dunlap attended the Newark School of Fine and Industrial Arts on a full scholarship, earning a degree in Advertising Design. She won the gold medal in synchronized swimming in the 1977 Junior National Team Championships, and a bronze medal at the inaugural National Sports Festival in 1978.
