Bodega Y Quadra Museum
Bodega y Quadra Museum ( es, Museo de Sitio Bodega y Quadra) is a site museum located at second block of Jirón Áncash, in the historic centre of Lima, Peru. Located on the remains of a terrain that dates back to the Viceroyalty of Peru, it illustrates the daily life of people during the Spanish and Republican era of the city. History The museum space incorporates an old butcher shop and slaughterhouse from the beginning of the 17th century, whose last owners were the Bodega y Quadra y Mollinedo family. These facilities were discovered during excavations for the construction of a building in 2005. In 2012 the Ministry of Culture promoted the creation of the museum respecting the architecture of the old colonial house and its foundations. The museum is divided into seven rooms. Jirón Áncash
Jirón Áncash is a major street in the Damero de Pizarro, located in the historic centre of Lima, Peru. The street starts at its intersection with the Jirón de la Unión at the Puente de Piedra, and continues until it reaches the Óvalo de la Paz. History The road that today constitutes the street was laid by Francisco Pizarro when he founded the city of Lima on January 18, 1535. In the 16th century, the Church of San Francisco was built. An event of repercussion recounted by several chroniclers would happen there. They point out that during the earthquake of 1630, an image of the Virgin Mary turned her face towards the main altar of the church just at the moment the movement stopped. The people of Lima, within their Catholicism, interpreted that the mother of Christ turned to see the saint and appease the fury of her son who was causing the earthquake. Desamparados Station
The Desamparados station ( es, Estación de Desamparados) is a railway station in Lima, Peru. It is situated on the left margin of the Rímac River, next to the Government Palace. The station was named after the church of ''Nuestra Señora de los Desamparados''. The project began in 1890 by the Peruvian Corporation and three years later the Lima–La Oroya route was inaugurated. The line became known as the Ferrocarril Central Andino At present the station only has administrative use, although it can offer passenger excursion services between Lima and the central mountain range. The Recreation, Intramural, and Athletic Complex (RIMAC, ) is a sports complex at the University of California San Diego comprising an arena, a weight room and various other event and athletic facilities. SS ''Panaman'' was a cargo ship built in 1913 for the American-Hawaiian Steamship Company. The ship was sometimes incorrectly referred to as SS ''Panamanian''. During World War I she was known as USAT ''Panaman'' in service for the United States Army and USS ''Panaman'' (ID-3299) in service for the United States Navy. Late in her career she was known as SS ''Marcella'' for the Italian government. Juan Francisco De La Bodega Y Quadra
Juan Francisco de la Bodega y Quadra (22 May 1743 – 26 March 1794) was a Spanish Criollo naval officer operating in the Americas. Assigned to the Pacific coast Spanish Naval Department base at San Blas, in Viceroyalty of New Spain (present day Mexico), he explored the Northwest Coast of North America as far north as present day Alaska. Bodega Bay in California is named for him. Juan Francisco de la Bodega y Quadra joined the Spanish Naval Academy in Cádiz at 19, and four years later, in 1767 was commissioned as an officer of the rank Frigate Ensign (''alférez de fragata''). In 1773 he was promoted to Ship Ensign (''alférez de navío''), and in 1774 to Ship Lieutenant (''teniente de navío''). Located principally in the city centre or Cercado de Lima and Rímac areas, the Historic Centre of Lima is among the most important tourist destinations in Peru. Foundation The city of Lima, the capital of Peru, was founded by Francisco Pizarro on 18 January 1535 and given the name City of the Kings. Nevertheless, with time its original name persisted, which may come from one of two sources: Either the Aymara language ''lima-limaq'' (meaning "yellow flower"), or the Spanish pronunciation of the Quechuan word ''rimaq'' (meaning "talker", and actually written and pronounced ''limaq'' in the nearby Quechua I languages). ''El Comercio'' is a Peruvian newspaper based in Lima. Founded in 1839, it is the oldest newspaper in Peru and one of the oldest Spanish-language papers in the world.
