Bobby Smith (Canadian Soccer)
Bobby Smith (born 30 November 1940) is a former Canadian soccer player. He was an outside left, most notably with Vancouver Columbus FC with whom he played in the 1968 Canadian final. He is an honoured member of the Canada Soccer Hall of Fame. In the Pacific Coast League, Smith won league championships titles with North Shore United (1959–60) and Columbus FC (1969-70). He was a British Columbia All-Star five times in an eight-year span from 1960 to 1967. He was one of only three players that scored more than 150 goals in the Pacific Coast League from 1939–40 to 1972–73, setting the league record with 160 goals from 1958 to 1972. He was the league's top scorer through the 1960s with 132 goals scored. He also led the league in scoring three times (1959–60, 1964–65, 1967–68). Nanaimo Daily News
The ''Nanaimo Daily News'' was a Canadian daily newspaper published weekdays in Nanaimo, on Vancouver Island in British Columbia for 141 years until ceasing publication in January 2016. The paper's final owner was Black Press, which also publishes the ''Alberni Valley Times'' and the ''Ladysmith-Chemainus Chronicle'', and several other weekly newspapers on the island. History George Norris founded the paper as the semi-weekly ''Nanaimo Free Press'' in 1874. It began publishing six times a week, Monday to Saturday, 14 years later in 1888. ''The Winnipeg Tribune'' was a metropolitan daily newspaper serving Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada from January 28, 1890 to August 27, 1980. The paper was founded by R.L. Richardson and D.L. Gogie Stewart
Gogie Stewart (2 January 1929 – 12 May 2003) was a multi-sport athlete from British Columbia, notably a former Canadian soccer player and lacrosse player. He was a three-time national soccer champion with Canadian clubs Vancouver City FC (1950) and Westminster Royals FC (1955, 1960) as well as a two-time national lacrosse champion with Vancouver Burrards (1949) and Nanaimo Timbermen (1956). He was one of Canada's starting inside forwards during FIFA World Cup Qualifiers in 1957. After his retirement, he became an honoured member of the Canada Soccer Hall of Fame. Pacific Coast Soccer League (1908-73)
The Pacific Coast Soccer League is an amateur soccer league, currently featuring teams from British Columbia. In the past clubs from Washington and Oregon have competed. PCSL is considered to be British Columbia's premier summer league. The league winners are not eligible for any higher cup competitions; however, most players participate in a winter league, such as the VMSL, VISL or FVSL, where teams do participate in BC Provincial Cup qualification. The league has a short, 2.5-month summer season. The league is considered to be a 4th tier competition next to USL League 2. The PCSL comprises elite football players, including ex-pros from Europe and North America, or NCAA or U Sports players and others looking to become professional footballers, or maintain fitness. Canada Soccer Hall Of Fame
The Canada Soccer Hall of Fame honours people and institutions for their contributions to Canadian soccer. It was founded in 1997 by the Ontario Soccer Association and was originally located in Vaughan, Ontario. As of 2019, the Canada Soccer Hall of Fame has inducted 114 players, 13 managers/coaches, 10 officials, and 40 builders as honoured members. Additionally, the Canada Soccer Hall of Fame has recognized 13 teams of distinction and seven organizations of distinction.
