Bob Young (news Anchor)
Robert H. "Bob" Young (November 7, 1923 – January 19, 2011) was a television news journalist for American Broadcasting Company, ABC News. He served as the anchor of ''The ABC Evening News'' (now known as ''ABC World News Tonight, World News Tonight'') from October 1967 to May 1968. Young's most noteworthy broadcast took place on April 4, 1968, when he anchored ABC's coverage of the assassination of Martin Luther King Jr. After leaving ABC, Young went to WCBS-TV in New York City where he anchored the 11:00 p.m. newscast until 1971. He later returned to radio news anchoring at New York's all-news WINS (AM), NBC Red Network, NBC Radio News and United Press International Radio Network, UPI Audio. He then turned to public relations work. Young died on January 19, 2011, in Ridgewood, New Jersey, Ridgewood, New Jersey, at the age of 87. NBC Red Network
The NBC, National Broadcasting Company's NBC Radio Network (known as the NBC Red Network prior to 1942) was an American commercial radio network which was in operation from 1926 through 2004. Along with the Blue Network, NBC Blue Network it was one of the first two nationwide networks established in the United States. Its major competitors were the CBS Radio, Columbia Broadcasting System (CBS), founded in 1927, and the Mutual Broadcasting System, founded in 1934. In 1942, NBC was required to divest one of its national networks, so it sold NBC Blue, which was soon renamed the American Broadcasting Company (ABC). After this separation the Red Network continued as the ''NBC Radio Network''. Frank Reynolds
Frank James Reynolds (November 29, 1923 – July 20, 1983) was an American television journalist for CBS and ABC News. Reynolds was a New York–based anchor of the ''ABC Evening News'' from 1968 to 1970 and later was the Washington, D.C.–based co-anchor of '' World News Tonight'' from 1978 until his death in 1983. During the Iran hostage crisis, he began the 30-minute late-night program ''America Held Hostage'', which later was renamed ''Nightline'', and then taken over by Ted Koppel. Background Born in East Chicago, Indiana, Reynolds attended Bishop Noll Institute in Hammond and Wabash College in Crawfordsville. He was a member of Lambda Chi Alpha fraternity. Peter Charles Archibald Ewart Jennings (July 29, 1938August 7, 2005) was a Canadian-born American television journalist who served as the sole anchor of ''ABC World News Tonight'' from 1983 until his death from lung cancer in 2005. He dropped out of high school, yet he transformed himself into one of American television's most prominent journalists. Jennings started his career early, hosting a Canadian radio show at age 9. He began his professional career with CJOH-TV in Ottawa during its early years, anchoring the local newscasts and hosting the teen dance show ''Saturday Date'' on Saturdays. In 1965, ABC News tapped him to anchor its flagship evening news program. Critics and others in the television news business attacked his inexperience, making his job difficult. Originally named "UPI Audio," the United Press International Radio Network was a news service for radio and television stations from wire service United Press International. It was the first such service offered by a major news agency and existed from 1958 to 1999. A late 1950s offshoot of UPI's television footage service, "UPI Movietone," later known as United Press International Television News or UPITN, "UPI Audio," began selling the sounds of newsmakers stripped from newsfilm, plus the voices of UPI reporters and stringers to client radio stations.
