Bob Pursell (footballer, Born 1919)
Robert Wilson Pursell (28 September 1919 – August 2005) was a Scottish footballer who played as a full-back for Wolverhampton Wanderers, Port Vale, Winsford United, and Northwich Victoria. He was the son of Peter Pursell and nephew to Bob Pursell, who were also defenders who played for Port Vale. Career Pursell played for Northwood B.S.C., Chesterton and Wolverhampton Wanderers, before joining Port Vale on trial from Chesterton in November 1939 and signing professional forms the next month. During the war his career was put on hold, and he guested for Boulton Paul Aircraft Ltd. and the Bristol Aeroplane Company Ltd. As Vale began playing football again in August 1944 he returned to The Old Recreation Ground, but was only utilized regularly from September 1945. He made 32 Third Division South and five FA Cup appearances in the 1946–47 season. The Football Association Challenge Cup, more commonly known as the FA Cup, is an annual knockout football competition in men's domestic English football. First played during the 1871–72 season, it is the oldest national football competition in the world. It is organised by and named after The Football Association (The FA). In professional football, a transfer is the action taken whenever a player under contract moves between clubs. It refers to the transferring of a player's registration from one association football club to another. In general, the players can only be transferred during a transfer window and according to the rules set by a governing body (fulfilling the requirements of FIFA, continental and national bodies regulating the purchasing and selling clubs). A negotiated transfer fee is agreed financial compensation paid from an interested club, to the club that possesses the player's exclusive contracted playing rights. When a player moves from one club to another, their old contract is terminated whilst the player and their new destination club will both negotiate on new contract terms (or have earlier mutually agreed on the personal terms). Gordon Hodgson
Gordon Hodgson (16 April 1904 – 14 June 1951) was a professional sportsman, born in Transvaal Colony, who is best known as a striker for Liverpool and as a fast bowler for Lancashire. He won two international caps for South Africa and three for England. Hodgson signed for Liverpool on 14 December 1925, going on to score 241 goals in 377 appearances for the Anfield club. He transferred to Aston Villa on 8 January 1936 and scored 11 goals in 28 appearances for the Villans, before joining Leeds United in March 1937, scoring 53 goals in 85 appearances for the Elland Road club. In total Hodgson scored 305 goals in 490 appearances for his three English clubs, 295 of which came in 467 games in the Football League with the other ten coming in the FA Cup from 23 appearances. He was appointed Port Vale manager in 1946, a position he would hold until his death in 1951.
