Bob Pritchard (composer)
Bob Pritchard (born 1956 in Calgary, Alberta) is a composer and teacher. His creative work includes experimental concert music, interactive music and video pieces, sound installations, direct synthesis, video/film, radiophonic works, and software development. His music is represented bAMP Education Bob Pritchard received a Bachelor of Music degree in Composition and Theory from the University of British Columbia. He subsequently obtained the Master of Music degree from the University of Toronto, where he became active with the Structured Sound Synthesis Project in the U of T Computer Systems Research Group. In the late 1990s, Pritchard returned to UBC to complete his Doctor of Music degree in Composition, with a specialty in computer applications. John Korsrud
John Korsrud (born 1963) is a Canadian composer and jazz trumpeter. Life John Korsrud was born in 1963. He graduated from the University of British Columbia in 1990. Korsrud studied composition with Louis Andriessen at the Royal Conservatory of Music in Amsterdam from 1995 to 1997. Korsrud has received commissions from the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra, the American Composers Orchestra, The CBC Radio Orchestra, and Dutch ensembles such as Ensemble LOOS, the Tetzepi Bigtet, the Zapp String Quartet, De Ereprijs, among others. in 2010, Korsrud performed on his own trumpet concerto, ''Come to the Dark Side'' at Carnegie Hall in with The American Composers Orchestra. Owen Underhill
Owen Underhill (born January 26, 1954) is a Canadian composer, flutist and conductor based in Vancouver. He is currently a professor of music at Simon Fraser University. He has been an active contributor to the new music scene on the West Coast, as a flutist, as co-music director of Western Front New Music (1982-3), as the artistic director (1987–2000) of the Vancouver New Music Society,Chuck Davis. Jane Austin Coop (born 18 April 1950 in Saint John, New Brunswick) is a Canadian pianist and music pedagogue. An internationally recognized concert pianist, she has appeared as a recitalist and as a soloist with major symphony orchestras throughout the world. Hard Rubber Orchestra
The Hard Rubber Orchestra is a jazz band led by composer and trumpeter John Korsrud in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. Founded in 1990, it has a shifting membership of 15-30 musicians. It is known for spotlighting work by contemporary composers and won the Alcan Performing Arts Award in 2004. History The Hard Rubber Orchestra was founded in 1990 by John Korsrud. It had instrumentation similar to a big band, but the music was "an unholy mashup of minimalism, free jazz, noise, and funk". Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra
The Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra is an orchestra based in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. The orchestra gives the majority of its performances in the Jack Singer Concert Hall at Arts Commons. It is also the resident orchestra for the Calgary Opera, Alberta Ballet Company, and the Honens International Piano Competition. History The Orchestra has a relatively short history, which began in 1910 with the founding of the First Calgary Symphony by violinist A.P. Howell. In 1947, the New Calgary Symphony was formed by Clayton Hare with members of the Mount Royal Orchestra and the previous Calgary Symphony. In 1955, the Dutch conductor Henry Plukker created the Alberta Philharmonic, which in the same year merged with the Calgary Symphony. Joseph Francis Petric (born October 8, 1952) is a Canadian concert accordionist, historian, author, and pedagogue. Formation Formal training Petric began private studies at the Royal Conservatory with Joe Macerollo in 1968. In 1971 he was accepted into a liberal arts program at Queen's University and began studies in the humanities, Russian, history of philosophy, art history, and performance. In 1972 he transferred into Queen's Bachelor of Music program, while continuing his performance studies at the Royal Conservatory (1971–5).
