Bob Armstrong
Joseph Melton James (October 3, 1939 – August 27, 2020) was an American professional wrestler, better known by his ring name, "Bullet" Bob Armstrong. In the course of his career, which spanned five decades, Armstrong held numerous championships throughout the Southeastern United States. His four sons, Joseph Scott, Robert Bradley, Steve and Brian Girard, all became wrestlers. Early life Joseph Melton James was born in Marietta, Georgia on October 3, 1939. When he was a child, Joseph James's father took him to see Gorgeous George wrestle. The young James was impressed and intrigued by the flamboyant performer. As a young man, James served in the United States Marine Corps in the early 1960s and was stationed in Korea. During his recruit training in Marine Corps Recruit Depot Parris Island on Parris Island, South Carolina, James was named Honor Man. Robert Armstrong (baseball)
Robert Livingston Armstrong (July 4, 1850 – December 3, 1917) was an American professional baseball player. He played 12 of 21 games, 11 in Center fielder, center field, for the Fort Wayne Kekiongas in the first professional league, the 1871 National Association of Professional Base Ball Players (NAPBBP). Previously Armstrong played three seasons for the Maryland club of Baltimore, Maryland in the National Association of Base Ball Players. The Marylands were a strong club among the hundreds of NABBP members but a weak club among the twelve that contested the first professional pennant race in 1869, or the second one in 1870. Bob Armstrong was the son of John Horatio Armstrong and Caroline Amelia Scheldt and great grandson of John Armstrong Jr. He was 6'2" and was married to Betty Arnold. Bob Armstrong (September 4, 1873 – January 5, 1933), was a heavyweight boxer known as the " King of the Battle Royal". He was born in Rogersville, Tennessee, but he moved with his family to Washington, Ohio when he was three years old. Before he got into boxing, Armstrong worked with racing horses in Minneapolis, Minnesota. He made his debut on September 19 in a six-rounder against Joe Choynski in Chicago, Illinois. He lost the decision on points. Choynski used him as a sparring partner, as did world heavyweight champion pretender Tom Sharkey and the true heavyweight champs Bob Fitzsimmons and Jim Jeffries. Robert Richard Armstrong (April 7, 1931 – November 6, 1990) was a Canadian professional ice hockey defenceman. He played in the National Hockey League with the Boston Bruins between 1951 and 1961. Career Armstrong played junior hockey with the Stratford Kroehlers and broke into the NHL with the Boston Bruins in the 1950–51 season. Armstrong was known as a hard-hitting defenceman and could be found on the Boston blueline for every one of his 542 career NHL games. He was involved in many fights and made it to the Stanley Cup Finals three times, in 1953, 1957 and 1958. His team never won, however, losing each time to the Montreal Canadiens. He went on to be a master at Lakefield College School and died on November 6, 1990. Robert A. Armstrong was an American retired ice hockey defenseman who was an All-American for Clarkson. Early life Armstrong graduated from Ithaca High School in 1979 and then spent a year at Northwood Prep School. While there he worked as a driver at the 1980 Winter Olympics and served as an usher during the Miracle on Ice game between the United States and the Soviet Union. Career Armstrong began attending Clarkson University in the fall of 1980. Clarkson made appearances in the NCAA Tournament in each of Armstrong's first two seasons and, though he was a bit player as a freshman, Armstrong had a much more integral role in 1982. After several of the top players graduated that year, Clarkson declined in Armstrong's junior season. He was named team captain for his senior year and the team rebounded. Robert F. Armstrong (June 11, 1920 – November 22, 2009) was an American professional basketball player. He played in the National Basketball League for the Youngstown Bears in just one game during the 1945–46 season but did not register a single statistic. Armstrong was born in Cambridge, Ohio but was raised in Warren, Ohio. He played college basketball at Glenville State College in Glenville, West Virginia from 1938 to 1942. He was the sixth man in his freshman season of 1938–39 but then a starter his final three years. He earned All-WVIAC honors twice (1941, 1942). In 2008, he was inducted into Glenville State's Hall of Fame. Armstrong graduated in 1942 and went on to earn a master's degree from Kent State University.
