Bluma Appel
Bluma Appel, (September 4, 1919July 15, 2007) was a Canadian philanthropist and patron of the arts. She was born the daughter of Russian émigrés who left Czarist Russia around 1905. Born and raised in Montreal, Quebec, she was the founder of CANFAR, the Canadian Foundation for AIDS Research. Bluma married the Montreal chartered accountant Bram Appel on July 11, 1940. It was Bram's subsequent success in business which afforded Bluma the opportunity to engage in serious philanthropic activity: in 1946 he co-founded Pall Corporation. In 1979, she ran unsuccessfully as a Liberal candidate for the House of Commons of Canada in the riding of Nepean—Carleton. She lost to Walter Baker. She was a major supporter of the St. Lawrence Centre for the Arts, which named one of its theatres in her honour in March 1983 after she made a donation to help renovate the 876-seat theatre where the Canadian Stage Company (CanStage) performs. James Andrew Bluma (born May 18, 1972) is a former Major League Baseball pitcher who played for one season. He pitched in 17 games for the Kansas City Royals during the 1996 Kansas City Royals season. Bluma is member of the Sports Hall of Fame at his alma mater, Wichita State University. Career High school and college Jaime Bluma was born in Beaufort, South Carolina and later raised in Owasso, Oklahoma where he played high school baseball. As a senior in 1990 he was selected to the Oklahoma All-State baseball team. He attended Wichita State University where he set several records for the Shockers baseball program, and is still the schools all-time leader in saves and appearances. Bluma played in the College World Series three consecutive years with the Shockers, posting a 3–0 win/loss record with two saves and a 0.48 ERA. Trevor Blumas (born October 16, 1984) is a Canadian television and film actor and singer-songwriter. Early life and career Blumas was born in London, Ontario, Canada. Trevor Blumas went to school at the Lester B. Pearson School for the Arts, studying drama, music, dance, and art. Blumas was part of the Original Kids Theatre Company in Ontario alongside Rachel McAdams, and Amber Marshall. He was nominated in 1999 Young Artist Award for "Best Performance", for his performance in ''Stranger in Town''. Blumas co-starred in the Disney film '' Ice Princess'' (2005) alongside Michelle Trachtenberg.
