Blind Date
A blind date is a social engagement between two people who have not met, usually arranged by a mutual acquaintance. Structure A blind date is arranged for by a mutual acquaintance of both participants. The two people who take part in the blind date may have never met or seen each other, hence the phrase "blind date". Therefore, it is the responsibility of the acquaintance who arranges the date to ensure that they are a good match. Sometimes one person is more interested in the match than the other, which may make it more difficult on the person arranging the date to judge whether the date will be successful. The date is usually two hours or less, as it is just a first date and is really meant to introduce the two people more than it is meant to create a marriage. Furthermore, due to the unfamiliarity of the two people the date is shorter than most because they are in the beginning stages of a relationship. The Blind Date (TV Series)
''The Blind Date'' is a British television crime drama television series, written by Simon Booker, that first broadcast on ITV on 13 March 2000. The series, based upon the novel by Frances Fyfield, follows Lucy Kennedy (Zara Turner), a former police detective whose sister was murdered, and after a plot to ‘honey trap’ the prime suspect for the murder goes horribly wrong, Lucy's memories of the traumatic incident are revived when a friend of hers goes on a horrific blind date with the suspected killer. The series co-starred Mark Letheren, Hazel Ellerby, Peter Wight and Ben Miller, and was filmed in and around Highgate, Archway and Muswell Hill. The first episode drew 8.63 million viewers, while episode two drew just over 8 million. The series was released on VHS on 27 March 2000, alongside a fellow Miller-fronted ITV drama, '' Passion Killers''. This remains the only home video release to date. ''Blind Date'' is an old-time radio program in the United States. It was broadcast on NBC from July 8, 1943 until January 18, 1946. Origin The program was derived from a similar show, ''G. I. Blind Date'', that was broadcast on KSOO in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. That program was adapted into a summer replacement for the Fanny Brice-Frank Morgan show (''Maxwell House Coffee Time''). General Foods was the sponsor. Format Listeners to ''Blind Date'' heard "a simple, old-fashioned pattern — that of a young man trying to talk himself into the good graces of a girl". Each episode featured six servicemen selected from the studio audience. Those six were grouped into three pairs. ''Blind Date'' is a 1986 young adult horror fantasy novel by R.L. Stine, and while written as a standalone, it was published as the first book in Scholastic's Point Horror series. The story follows Kerry, a young man who becomes obsessed with the sexy voice of a woman on his telephone despite having never seen her. Publication ''Blind Date'' was one of R.L. Stine's first horror genre novels for young adults, written as a standalone prior to Stine's 1990s fame due to his ''Goosebumps'' book series (which was written for much younger readers). Jerzy Kosiński (born Józef Lewinkopf; ; June 14, 1933 – May 3, 1991) was a Polish-American novelist and two-time President of the American Chapter of P.E.N., who wrote primarily in English.
