Blair Municipal Airport
Blair Executive Airport , formerly the Blair Municipal Airport, is about south of Blair, Nebraska, a city in Washington County, Nebraska. History The original Blair Municipal Airport north of Blair opened between 1938 and 1941. In 1996 the city of Blair purchased the privately owned Eagle Airfield which became the site of the present Blair Municipal Airport. Eagle Airfield was renamed, and extensive construction replaced the original narrow runway, removed a grass cross-runway, and added new tarmacs and hangars. The original airport location was demolished and turned into a golf course by 1999. The Omaha Police Department's Air Support Unit began operating out of the airport in June 2019, moving from the North Omaha Airport. Blair is a city in and the county seat of Washington County, Nebraska, United States. The population was 7,990 at the 2010 census. History Blair was platted in 1869 when the Sioux City and Pacific Railroad was extended to that point. It was named for railroad magnate John Insley Blair, who was credited with bringing the railroad to town. Blair was incorporated as a city in 1872. Within its first year, Blair was designated county seat. In March 1869, a small child playing on a railroad turntable in town was injured on the turntable. Washington County is a county in the U.S. state of Nebraska. As of the 2010 United States Census, the population was 20,234. Its county seat is Blair. Washington County is part of the Omaha-Council Bluffs, NE- IA Metropolitan Statistical Area. North Omaha Airport is a privately owned, public-use airport eight miles northwest of Omaha, in Douglas County, Nebraska. Facilities North Omaha Airport covers 100 acres (40 ha) at an elevation of 1,324 feet (404 m). Its one runway, 17/35, is 3,173 by 40 feet (967 x 12 m) concrete. In the year ending August 29, 2018 the airport had 14,250 general aviation aircraft operations, average 39 per day. 57 aircraft were then based at the airport: 87% single-engine and 13% helicopter. The Bell 206 is a family of two-bladed, single- and twin-engined helicopters, manufactured by Bell Helicopter at its Mirabel, Quebec, plant. Originally developed as the Bell YOH-4 for the United States Army's Light Observation Helicopter program, it was not selected by the Army. Bell redesigned the airframe and successfully marketed the aircraft commercially as the five-place Bell 206A JetRanger. The new design was eventually selected by the Army as the OH-58 Kiowa.
