Blackley and Middleton South is a constituency of the House of Commons in the UK Parliament. Created as a result of the 2023 Periodic Review of Westminster constituencies, it was first contested at the 2024 general election. The constituency is based in northern Greater Manchester. Boundaries The constituency is composed of the following wards (as they existed on 1 December 2020): * The City of Manchester wards of: Charlestown; Crumpsall; Harpurhey; Higher Blackley; Moston. *The Metropolitan Borough of Rochdale wards of: East Middleton; South Middleton. The seat covers the majority of the former Blackley and Broughton constituency - excluding the parts in the City of Salford ( Broughton) as well as the City of Manchester district of Cheetham. 2023 Periodic Review Of Westminster Constituencies
The 2023 Periodic Review of Westminster constituencies is the current cycle of the process to redraw the constituency map for the House of Commons. The process for periodic reviews of parliamentary constituencies in the United Kingdom is governed by the Parliamentary Constituencies Act 1986, as amended by the Parliamentary Voting System and Constituencies Act 2011 and subsequently by the Parliamentary Constituencies Act 2020. This review is the successor to the 2018 Periodic Review of Westminster constituencies, which was ultimately abandoned after it failed to pass into law. Under current legislation, the four Boundary Commissions of the United Kingdom are required to report on their next review of the boundaries of parliamentary constituencies before 1 July 2023. Broughton, Salford
Broughton is a suburb and district of Salford, City of Salford, Greater Manchester, England, on the east bank of the River Irwell, it is northwest of Manchester and south of Prestwich. Historically in Lancashire, Broughton was a township and chapelry in the parish of Manchester and hundred of Salford. The former manor house, Broughton Hall, belonged to the Chethams and the Stanleys, both distinguished local families, and later passed, by marriage, to the Clowes family. Part of Broughton was amalgamated into the Municipal Borough of Salford in 1844, and the remaining area in 1853.
