Blackbirds (1920 Film)
''Blackbirds'' is a lost 1920 silent film crime drama produced and distributed by Realart Pictures, an affiliate of Paramount. It is based on a 1913 Broadway play ''Blackbirds'' by Harry James Smith. A previous 1915 version starred Laura Hope Crews who starred in the play. This version stars Justine Johnstone and William "Stage" Boyd. John Francis Dillon (director)
John Francis Dillon (July 13, 1884 – April 4, 1934) was an American film director and actor of the silent era. He directed 130 films between 1914 and 1934. He also appeared in 74 films between 1914 and 1931. He was born in New York, New York, was a brother of Robert A. Dillon, and died in Los Angeles, California from a heart attack. He was married to the actress Edith Hallor. Harry James Smith
Harry James Smith (May 24, 1880 – March 16, 1918) was an American playwright and novelist. His best known plays include '' A Tailor-Made Man'', first produced in 1917 and adapted into films of the same name in 1922 and 1931. His 1913 play ''Blackbirds'' was also adapted into films. Educated at Williams College and Harvard University, he also studied biology, taught briefly at Oberlin University and was an editor at ''The Atlantic Monthly'' before turning to writing full-time. He was killed in a traffic collision in British Columbia while collecting peat moss for its use in surgical dressings.
