Black Light
A blacklight, also called a UV-A light, Wood's lamp, or ultraviolet light, is a lamp that emits long-wave (UV-A) ultraviolet light and very little visible light. One type of lamp has a violet filter material, either on the bulb or in a separate glass filter in the lamp housing, which blocks most visible light and allows through UV, so the lamp has a dim violet glow when operating. Blacklight lamps which have this filter have a lighting industry designation that includes the letters "BLB". This stands for "blacklight blue". A second type of lamp produces ultraviolet but does not have the filter material, so it produces more visible light and has a blue color when operating. These tubes are made for use in "bug zapper" insect traps, and are identified by the industry designation "BL". This stands for "blacklight". Blacklight sources may be specially designed fluorescent lamps, mercury-vapor lamps, light-emitting diodes (LEDs), lasers, or incandescent lamps. In medicine, f ...

Backlight
A backlight is a form of illumination used in liquid crystal displays (LCDs). As LCDs do not produce light by themselves—unlike, for example, cathode ray tube (CRT), plasma (PDP) or OLED displays—they need illumination ( ambient light or a special light source) to produce a visible image. Backlights illuminate the LCD from the side or back of the display panel, unlike frontlights, which are placed in front of the LCD. Backlights are used in small displays to increase readability in low light conditions such as in wristwatches, and are used in smart phones, computer displays and LCD televisions to produce light in a manner similar to a CRT display. A review of some early backlighting schemes for LCDs is given in a report ''Engineering and Technology History'' by Peter J. Wild. Simple types of LCDs such as in pocket calculators are built without an internal light source, requiring external light sources to convey the display image to the user. Most LCD screens, however, are ...

Backlighting (lighting Design)
In lighting design, backlighting is the process of illuminating the subject from the back. In other words, the lighting instrument and the viewer face each other, with the subject in between. This creates a glowing effect on the edges of the subject, while other areas are darker. The backlight can be a natural or artificial source of light. When artificial, the back light is usually placed directly behind the subject in a 4-point lighting setup. A back light, which lights foreground elements from the rear, is not to be confused with a background light, which lights background elements (such as scenery). In the context of lighting design, the back light is sometimes called hair or shoulder light, because when lighting an actor or an actress, backlighting makes the edges the subject's hair glow if the hair is fuzzy. This can create an angelic halo type effect around the head. Filmmakers sometimes use this to show that the actor is ''good'' or ''pure''. Television productions of ...

BlackLight Power
Brilliant Light Power, Inc. (BLP), formerly BlackLight Power, Inc. of Cranbury, New Jersey, is a company founded by Randell L. Mills, who claims to have discovered a new energy source from observing that electron in a hydrogen atom can drop below the lowest energy state into a "hydrino state". The claims lack corroborating scientific evidence despite claims of experimental verification, and the proposed hydrino states are unphysical and incompatible with key equations of quantum mechanics. BLP has announced several times that it was about to deliver commercial products based on Mill's theories but is yet to deliver a working product. Mills has self-published a closely related book, ''The Grand Unified Theory of Classical Physics'' and has co-authored numerous articles on hydrino-related phenomena. (Self-published) Critical analyses have been published in the peer reviewed journals ''Physics Letters A'', ''New Journal of Physics'', ''Journal of Applied Physics'', and '' Journal of ...

The goals of the project included improving the user experience over contemporary OPAC systems, particularly with regard to relevance ranking, and showcasing historically underutilized library collections. Features Blacklight includes support faceted browsing, relevance-based searching, bookmarking documents, permanent URLs for documents. It is relatively simple to customize Blacklight, typically by writing Ruby code that overrides default Blacklight code. There are several plugins available for Blacklight as well, includi ...

The Black Light (The Ting Tings Album)
''The Black Light'' is the fourth studio album by English indie pop duo The Ting Tings. It was released on 26 October 2018 by Finca Records. Background and recording The album was written and recorded over a two-year period mostly in Los Angeles and Spain. During the creation of ''The Black Light'' and unlike the band's previous albums, the lyrics were written first and then put to music. Vocalist Katie White and drummer Julian De Martino initially recorded demos in Spain, with an indie rock sound styled after their heroes The Smiths and The Cure but were unhappy with this as they felt it was unrepresentative of their musical intentions for the project. They moved to Los Angeles where they built another new studio, rearranging the songs and re-recording some of the material before finding the resulting sound they searched for. The resulting album became a departure for Ting Tings, having a darker and melancholic sound than the band’s previous albums. ''The Black Light'' ...
