A film poster is a poster used to promote and advertise a film primarily to persuade paying customers into a theater to see it. Studios often print several posters that vary in size and content for various domestic and international markets. They normally contain an image with text. Today's posters often feature printed likenesses of the main actors. Prior to the 1980s, illustrations instead of photos were far more common. The text on film posters usually contains the film title in large lettering and often the names of the main actors. It may also include a tagline, the name of the director, names of characters, the release date, and other pertinent details to inform prospective viewers about the film. Dorothy Jordan (film Actress)
Dorothy Jordan (August 9, 1906 – December 7, 1988) was an American movie actress who had a short, successful career beginning in 1929. Career Born in Clarksville, Tennessee, Jordan studied at what is now Rhodes College and the American Academy of Dramatic Arts. She performed in Broadway musicals, including '' Garrick Gaieties''. Jordan made her screen debut in the 1929 film ''The Taming of the Shrew.'' She made 22 more films in the next four years, including ''Min and Bill'' (1930) with Wallace Beery and Marie Dressler and ''The Cabin in the Cotton'' (1932) with Bette Davis. During this time, she appeared in films with Ramon Novarro, Clark Gable, Lionel Barrymore, Walter Huston and Jimmy Durante. Edgar Hughes "Blue" Washington (12 February 1898 – 15 September 1970) was an American actor and baseball player who played in the Negro leagues from 1915 to 1920 as a pitcher and first baseman. Ivan Linow (born Jānis Linaus; November 21, 1888 – November 11, 1940), also known as Jack Linow, was a Latvian-born American wrestler, who became a character actor in American films during the silent and early sound film eras. Biography Born in Latvia on November 21, 1888, Linow began wrestling in the United States in 1918. Between 1918 and 1933, he participated in 92 matches, with a record of 38 wins and 23 losses. Linow's monikers in the ring were "the Cossack" and the "Russian Man-Eater". During his wrestling career, he faced other notable wrestlers of that era, such as Joe Stecher and Ed Lewis. Using his popularity as a wrestler, Linow entered the film industry during the 1920s, his first film being ''Cappy Ricks'' (1921). In his fifteen-year acting career, he appeared in over forty films in supporting and bit parts. While appearing in films, Linow continued his wrestling career. Sheldon Lewis
Sheldon Lewis (April 20, 1868 – May 7, 1958) was an American actor of the silent era best known for his antagonistic roles. He appeared in more than 90 films between 1914 and 1936. Lewis was married to actress Virginia Pearson, and they were divorced in 1928. An Associated Press news brief about the divorce said that Pearson accused Lewis of "jealousy, ill temper and abuse." However, Pearson's obituary in ''The New York Times'' said, "throughout the remaining years of their lives, they remained constant companions." The obituary indicated that the divorce was obtained because in that era marriage diminished a female film star's box-office appeal. Lewis was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and died in San Gabriel, California. His interment was located at Pierce Brothers Valhalla Memorial Park.
