Bitter Sweet (King Album)
''Bitter Sweet'' is the second and final album by the English band King, produced by Richard James Burgess and released by CBS Records in 1985. The album peaked at number 16 in the UK Album Chart and was certified Gold by the BPI. The first single from the album was "Alone Without You" which reached the UK Top 10. Two further singles were taken from the album, "The Taste of Your Tears" (UK #11) and "Torture" (UK #23). The cassette edition of the record featured a slightly different track listing, containing a slow reprise of the first single "Alone Without You", and the 12" extended remix replacing the 7" version of "The Taste of Your Tears". The original 1985 CD edition (made in Japan for Europe) also has a different track order and features remixes of the 2 singles "Torture" and "The Taste of Your Tears" instead of the album versions of these songs. King (new Wave Band)
King were a British new wave band which formed in 1984. The band achieved chart success in 1985, and are best known for their hit single "Love & Pride", which reached number 2 in the UK. The band had two Top 20 albums (both certified Gold) and five Top 30 singles in the space of a year. Overview The band was formed from the remnants of Coventry rock-ska band the Reluctant Stereotypes, along with producer Paul Sampson. After the Reluctant Stereotypes, singer Paul King formed the Raw Screens, who perfected their act and style to what Paul King and his manager Perry Haines called "Multi Tone", a reference to "Two Tone", and then, in 1983, relaunched the group as band King from the surname of lead singer Paul King. Sleeve
A sleeve ( ang, slīef, a word allied to ''slip'', cf. Dutch ) is the part of a garment that covers the arm, or through which the arm passes or slips. The sleeve is a characteristic of fashion seen in almost every country and time period, across a myriad of styles of dress. Styles vary from close-fitting to the arm, to relatively unfitted and wide sleeves, some with extremely wide cuffs. Simon Fowler
Simon Geoffrey Fowler (born 25 May 1965 in Meriden, Warwickshire) is an English singer and acoustic guitarist, best known as the frontman of Ocean Colour Scene. The Fanatics Simon Fowler commenced his music career as the lead singer and songwriter for Birmingham band The Fanatics, which consisted of Simon Fowler (vocals & guitar), Damon Minchella (bass), Paul Wilkes (guitar) and Carolyn Bullock (drums). Future Ocean Colour Scene drummer and former Echo Base band member Oscar Harrison replaced Bullock on drums. The Fanatics released one record in 1989 before splitting, the four track 'Suburban Love Songs' 12" vinyl e.p. on Chapter 22 Records (12 CHAP 38), containing the songs "1,2,3,4"; "My Brother Sarah" (later re-recorded by Ocean Colour Scene), "Suburban Love Songs" and "Tight Rope". Paul King (VJ)
Paul King (20 November 1960) is a British-Irish singer, musician, VJ and TV presenter. King has released five albums in his musical career. Biography Paul King was born in Galway, County Galway, Ireland and moved to Coventry, England, with his parents at a young age. After graduating from Coventry Drama School, King considered joining the West Midlands Police, but joined rock-ska band the Reluctant Stereotypes. King's line up of the band – which also contained record producer Paul Sampson – released an album ''The Label'' and three singles Confused Action, Plans For Today and Nightmares in the early 1980s on the back of Coventry's vibrant 2 Tone ska scene. B-side
The A-side and B-side are the two sides of phonograph records and cassettes; these terms have often been printed on the labels of two-sided music recordings. The A-side usually features a recording that its artist, producer, or record company intends to be the initial focus of promotional efforts and radio airplay and hopefully become a hit record. The B-side (or "flip-side") is a secondary recording that typically receives less attention, although some B-sides have been as successful as, or more so than, their A-sides. Reprise
In music, a reprise ( , ; from the verb 'to resume') is the repetition or reiteration of the opening material later in a composition as occurs in the recapitulation of sonata form, though—originally in the 18th century—was simply any repeated section, such as is indicated by beginning and ending repeat signs. A partial or abbreviated reprise is known as a petite reprise ( , ). In Baroque music this usually occurs at the very end of a piece, repeating the final phrase with added ornamentation. ''Joy'' is the only solo album by British singer Paul King, released in 1987, on CBS after King, the band he was lead singer for split up in 1986. The album was produced by American musician Dan Hartman. It failed to chart, and only produced a minor hit out of two single releases: "I Know", which stalled at number 59, and "Follow My Heart", which failed to chart in the UK top 75. Overview The album was more pop rock-oriented than the more new wave-sounding albums by the King group. The album contains extensive use of brass (being especially evident in the first single "I Know"), played by The Uptown Horns quartet, as well as background vocals, recorded in two separate sessions, one held in Detroit and the other in New York.
