The Bishop of Loughborough is an episcopal title used by the sole suffragan bishop of the Church of England Diocese of Leicester in the Province of Canterbury, England. From 1987 to 2017, the Assistant Bishop of Leicester was an episcopal title used by the sole stipendiary assistant bishop (effectively suffragan bishop) of the Diocese of Leicester. The title took its name as the bishop who assisted the diocesan Bishop of Leicester. Godfrey Ashby
Godfrey William Ernest Candler Ashby (born 6 November 1930) is a British Anglican bishop, theologian, and academic. From 1980 to 1985, he was the eighth Bishop of St John's in the Anglican Church of Southern Africa. From 1988 to 1995, he was the Assistant Bishop of Leicester in the Church of England. Early life Ashby was educated at The King's School, an independent school in Chester, Cheshire. He studied at King's College London, and graduated in 1954 with a Bachelor of Divinity (BD) degree and the Associateship of King's College (AKC). He also became a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD). Varghese Malayil Lukose "Saju" Muthalaly (born 1979) is an Indian-British Anglican bishop. Since 2022, he has been the Bishop of Loughborough, a suffragan bishop in the Church of England's Diocese of Leicester. Early life and education Muthalaly was born in 1979 in South India Kerala. He grew up in a leprosy hospital in Bangalore, where his mother was a nurse. His family were part of the Malankara Orthodox Syrian Church, and he "committed his life to Christ" as a teenager. He studied at the Southern Asia Bible College in Bangalore, graduating with a Bachelor of Theology (BTh) degree in 2001. Gulnar Eleanor "Guli" Francis-Dehqani (born 18 June 1966) is an Iranian-born British Anglican bishop who has been Bishop of Chelmsford since 2021. She previously served as the first Bishop of Loughborough, the sole suffragan bishop in the Diocese of Leicester from 2017 to 2021. Christopher Boyle
Christopher John Boyle (born 8 November 1951) is a retired Anglican bishop. He was Bishop of Northern Malawi in the Church of the Province of Central Africa (2001–2009) and the last Assistant Bishop of Leicester in the Church of England (2009–2017). Early life and priestly career Born and raised in Birmingham, Boyle studied at King's College London and was ordained a deacon in the Church of England in 1976. He was ordained priest a year later, one year into serving his four-year title as assistant curate at Emmanuel, Wylde Green. William John Denbigh Down (born 15 July 1934) was the ninth Bishop of Bermuda and later the Assistant Bishop of Leicester. Educated at St John's College, Cambridge (he proceeded Cambridge Master of Arts ), Down was ordained in 1960. Rothley ( ) is a village and civil parish within the Borough of Charnwood in Leicestershire, England. Situated around west of the River Soar and north of Leicester, it had a population of 3,612 inhabitants . The population measured at the 2011 census was 3,897.
