The Bishop of Aston is an Episcopal polity, episcopal title used by a suffragan bishop of the Church of England Anglican Diocese of Birmingham, Diocese of Birmingham, in the Province of Canterbury, England. The title takes its name after Aston, an area of the City of Birmingham; the See was erected under the Suffragans Nomination Act 1888, by Order in Council dated 15 July 1954. Andrew Watson (bishop)
Andrew John Watson (born 16 July 1961) is the Bishop of Guildford in the Church of England. He previously served as Bishop of Aston, the suffragan bishop of the Diocese of Birmingham, from 2008 until 2014. Early life and education Watson was born, the son of Angus and Alison Watson, in Bicester, Oxfordshire, and was educated at Winchester College. A keen musician, he played the bassoon in the National Youth Orchestra Of Great Britain from 1974-6. He went on to study Law at Corpus Christi College, Cambridge, where he also held a music exhibition and sang in the chapel choir. He received his Bachelor of Arts (BA) degree in 1982, which was later promoted to a Master of Arts (MA Cantab) degree. Colin Ogilvie Buchanan (born 8 August 1934) is a British retired Anglican bishop and academic who specialised in liturgy. He served as the Principal of St John's College, Nottingham (1979–1985), the Bishop of Aston (1985–1989), and the Bishop of Woolwich (1996–2004). Early life and education Buchanan was born on 8 August 1934 to Prof. Robert Ogilvie Buchanan and Kathleen Mary Buchanan (''née'' Parnell). Michael Humphrey Dickens Whinney (8 July 19303 February 2017) was a Church of England bishop who served in two episcopal posts; he was also a great-great-grandson of Charles Dickens. He was born in Chelsea, London on 8 July 1930 and educated at Charterhouse School and Pembroke College, Cambridge (he became a Cambridge Master of Arts ); he later gained a Master of Sacred Theology (STM) degree from General Theological Seminary. David Brownfield Porter (10 May 190614 May 1993) was the suffragan Bishop of Aston from 1962 to 1972. He was born in Metropolitan Borough of Wandsworth, Wandsworth, County of London, London and educated at Hertford College, Oxford. He studied for ordination at Wycliffe Hall, Oxford before a Curate, curacy in Leeds (at St Augustine's Church, Wrangthorn, Wrangthorn St Augustine).
