''Father Ted'' is a sitcom produced by independent production company Hat Trick Productions for British broadcaster Channel 4. Its three series, comprising 25 episodes and a special, originally aired from 21 April 1995 to 1 May 1998. Its main characters, Father Ted Crilly ( Dermot Morgan) and his fellow priests Father Dougal McGuire ( Ardal O'Hanlon) and Father Jack Hackett ( Frank Kelly), were exiled to Craggy Island, where they lived with the fourth main character, housekeeper Mrs Doyle ( Pauline McLynn). "Kicking Bishop Brennan Up the Arse" is the sixth episode of the third series of the religion-themed sitcom ''Father Ted'', and the 23rd episode overall. It originally aired on Channel 4 on 17 April 1998; its story continues from the previous episode, "Escape from Victory". In the episode, Father Ted Crilly must kick his strict and overbearing superior Bishop Brennan in the buttocks ("up the arse") as a forfeit set in the previous episode by Father Dick Byrne for cheating at a football match. Denis Brennan
Denis Brennan (born 20 June 1945 in Enniscorthy, County Wexford) is an Irish Catholic bishop. He was Bishop of Ferns from 2006 until his retirement in 2021. Biography He received his primary education in Kiltealy National School, and his secondary education in St Peter’s College, Wexford. He then entered the seminary wing of the same college and was ordained there on 31 May 1970. In September that year he became a member of the Missionaries of the Blessed Sacrament at the House of Missions, Enniscorthy, and conducted missions and retreats in Ireland, Britain and Newfoundland. He was the last Superior of the House of Missions before its closure in 1992 and then was assigned as Administrator of St Senan's Parish, Templeshannon, from December 1986, and was appointed parish priest of Taghmon in March 1997. Joseph Vincent Brennan (born 20 March 1954) is a prelate of the Roman Catholic Church who has been serving as bishop of the Diocese of Fresno in California since 2019. He previously served as an auxiliary bishop of the Archdiocese of Los Angeles from 2015 to 2019. Early years Brennan was born in Van Nuys, California. He was ordained a priest on June 21, 1980. After his ordination, Brennan served as associate pastor at three parishes in Southern California: Immaculate Heart of Mary Parish in Los Angeles, St. Linus in Norwalk, and the former Cathedral of St. Vibiana in Los Angeles.
