Bis Vs. The D.I.Y. Corps
''Bis vs. the D.I.Y. Corps'' is the fourth extended play musical recording by the Scottish indie pop band Bis. It was the first release on Bis's very own Teen-C Recordings label. Soon after the group signed to Wiiija in the UK and Grand Royal in the US. It reached number forty-five on the UK Singles Chart in June 1996. It was released on 7 inch vinyl, cassette tape and compact disc. When listing this release or the song "This is Fake D.I.Y." Bis just as often use the last period in the acronym D.I.Y. as they don't. Bis (Scottish Band)
Bis ( ) (stylised as bis) are a Scottish indie pop band composed of Steven Clark (Sci-Fi Steven), John Clark (John Disco), and Amanda MacKinnon (Manda Rin), formed in 1994. The band's name, rhyming with 'this', derives from "black iron skyline", a lyric from the song "Twilight of a Champion" by The The. After releasing numerous cult EPs and three studio albums (1997's ''The New Transistor Heroes'', 1999's ''Social Dancing'', and 2001's '' Return To Central'') the band broke up in 2003, but re-formed briefly in 2007 for a series of concerts. In 2009 they once again re-formed (adding a bass player and a drummer to the band lineup) and released the album ''data Panik etcetera'' in 2014. John Disco
John Clark (born 21 August 1978, better known as John Disco) is a Scottish record producer, sound engineer and songwriter. He started out his career as a member of the band Bis, and has worked in the recording studio with Fangs, Franz Ferdinand, Stevie Jackson, Linus Loves and Mylo. Career Bands In 1994 Disco, Steven Clark (Sci-fi Steven) and Amanda MacKinnon (Manda Rin) formed the band bis in Glasgow, Scotland. His roles in the group included guitar, vocals, synthesisers, bass guitar and programming. Manda Rin
Manda Rin (real name Amanda MacKinnon, born 22 March 1977) is a Scottish singer, artist and songwriter. She is the singer and keyboard player of the Scottish indie rock band Bis, later fronted the Kitchen and also released a solo album. She also co-hosted a radio show on BBC Scotland called ''Air''. Rin was the only person ever to appear in two of the line up rounds on ''Never Mind the Buzzcocks''. Her first appearance was never shown: one of the contestants on the programme was Russell Brand who, shortly after taping, became embroiled in a tabloid row after leaving messages on the answerphone of Andrew Sachs for his radio programme, resulting in Brand being banned from the BBC. Food Records
Food Records was a British rock record label set up in 1984 by David Balfe (formally of Zoo Records), who later took on Andy Ross as his partner. Originally formed as an independent record label with distribution going through Rough Trade Distribution, Food also licensed acts through WEA Records, before becoming closely associated with the EMI group's Parlophone label. EMI invested in the label and then in 1994 EMI gained complete control and folded it into Parlophone in 2000. Ross died in 2022 aged 66. Artists Food was sold to EMI by David Balfe in 1994. Grand Royal
Grand Royal was the Los Angeles, California-based vanity record label set up in 1992 by rap group Beastie Boys in conjunction with Capitol Records after the group left Def Jam Recordings. ''Grand Royal'' was also the name of a magazine written and published by the group. Described as a publication that "came to define part of Generation X," the total distribution of the six issues of ''Grand Royal'' was estimated at 300,000 copies. Due to mounting debts, Grand Royal went out of business in 2001. Its assets were sold off via auction on Bid4Assets; these assets did not include any rights to Beastie Boys music. The assets and back catalog were purchased by a group of fans who in turn started GR2 Records.
