Boura (Achaea)
Bura (also Boura, Bira; grc, Βοῦρα) was an ancient polis (city-state) of Achaea, Greece, one of the 12 cities of the Achaean League. It is said to have derived its name from Bura, a daughter of Ion and Helice. The city was situated on a height 40 stadia from the sea, and southeast of Helike. Its name occurs in a line of Aeschylus, preserved by Strabo. It was swallowed up by the earthquake which destroyed Helike in 373 BCE, and all its inhabitants perished except those who were absent at the time. On their return they rebuilt the city, which was visited by Pausanias, who mentions its temples dedicated to Demeter, Aphrodite, Eileithyia and Isis. Strabo relates that there was a fountain at Bura called "Sybaris", from which the river and city in Magna Graecia, Italy derived its name. Prince Birabongse Bhanudej Bhanubandh ( th, พีรพงศ์ภาณุเดช; ; 15 July 191423 December 1985), better known as Prince Bira of Siam (now Thailand) or by his ''nom de course'' B. Bira, was a member of the Chakri dynasty, Thai royal family, racing driver, sailor, and pilot. Birabongse raced in Formula One and Grand Prix motor racing, Grand Prix races for the Maserati in motorsport, Maserati, Gordini, and Connaught Engineering, Connaught teams. He was the only Southeast Asian driver to compete in Formula One until Malaysia's Alex Yoong joined Minardi in 2001, and the only Thai driver to compete in Formula One until Alexander Albon made his debut in 2019. ''Programa do Jô'' (Portuguese for ''Jô's Show'') is a Brazilian late-night talk show that was broadcast by Rede Globo from April 3, 2000 to December 16, 2016. It was shown after the late-night news bulletin, '' Jornal da Globo''. The program was hosted by Brazilian comedian, author and musician Jô Soares. It began its life as ''Jô Soares Onze e Meia'' (''Jô Soares Eleven Thirty'') in 1988 on SBT. The Emakumeen Euskal Bira was a women's cycling race held in the Basque Country, Spain. It was held annually from 1988 to 2019, starting out as a two-stage race and building up to five stages in 2007. One of these stages was always a double stage. It was rated a 2.1 category race from 2005 to 2017 and a 2.WWT event in 2018 and 2019. The name of the race changed during the years, from 1988 to 2007 it was called Emakumeen Bira and from 2008 to 2011 Iurreta-Emakumeen Bira. The race ended after its 2019 edition. Bira Circuit is a motor racing track in Thailand, located in 111 Moo 5 Banglamung, Chonburi, northeast of Pattaya. The circuit is located on State Highway 36 which is from Bangkok and from the CBD of Pattaya. The venue is named after first Thai Formula 1 racing driver, Prince Birabongse Bhanudej Bhanubandh. The circuit has been operated by Bira Circuit One Company, Limited. The track, initially opened in 1986, covers an area of . It is a permanent motor and motorbike racing circuit with an offroad track, a rally stage and a go-kart facility. The circuit is twisty and bumpy and consists of elevation and two chicanes, a fast downhill double apex corner. There are 30 pits for racecars, plus a control tower, medical center and meeting room. Bira Ceremony
Bira is an all-night ritual, celebrated by Shona people from Zimbabwe in which members of an extended family call on ancestral spirits for guidance and intercession. Shona people believe that the only ones who can communicate with both the living and God are the ancestral spirits, or ''dzavadzimu''. These spirits are summoned during the Bira ceremonies through the use of music and ritual dance. Bira ceremonies are also held to welcome back the spirit of an ancestor into the home where a family member is a svikiro who is occasionally possessed by one or more ancestors. The attendees at a ceremony participate in singing, dancing and hand clapping. The two mbira players are joined by a player on a pair of gourd shakers ( hosho), which emphasize the underlying triplet beat.
