Anthony Bimba
Antanas "Anthony" Bimba Jr. (1894–1982) was a Lithuanians, Lithuanian-born American newspaper editor, historian, and radical political activist. An editor of a number of Lithuanian Marxism, Marxist periodicals published in the United States, Bimba is best remembered as the defendant in a 1926 legal case in which he was charged with sedition and violation of a 229-year-old law against blasphemy in the state of Massachusetts. Bimba was once again in the news in 1963 when the United States Department of Justice began deportation proceedings against him, charging that he committed perjury during the course of his 1927 naturalization as an American citizen. The effort was contested and ultimately dropped by the government in the summer of 1967. Bhima Of Mahikavati
Bhima, also known as Bhimdev or Bimba-Shah, was a 13th-century Indian king (''raja'') who established his capital in Mahikavati, the present-day Mahim, in Mumbai. He is identified as a son of the king Ramadeva of Devagiri. Identification Bimbakhyan legend ''Bimbakhyan'' ("The story of Bimba"), an old Marathi language poem, states that the king Bimbadev (or Bimbashah) came to Konkan travelling through Anahilavada in 1294 CE (1216 Shaka). He was accompanied by a number of people, who had left the kingdoms of Anahilavada and Devagiri because of Muslim invasions. Bimba halted at Mahim, then an island, and became enamoured with its beautiful scenery. He built a palace on the island, and his followers also built their residence there. Based on the ''Bimbakhyan'' account, José Gerson da Cunha identified Bimba with Bhima II of the Chaulukya (Solanki) dynasty of Gujarat, whose capital was Anahilavada. Manuel dos Reis Machado, commonly called Mestre Bimba (; November 23, 1900 – February 5, 1974), was a Brazilian capoeira ''mestre'' and the founder of the '' capoeira regional'' style. Bimba was one of the best capoeiristas of his time, undefeated in numerous public challenges against fighters from various martial arts. Bimba came from capoeira Angola, and taught Angola style. He reformed capoeira primarily in response to Burlamaqui and Sinhôzinho's attempts to strip it of music and African traditions, and transform it into a mere set of bodily techniques. On the other hand, he was unsatisfied with capoeira Angola of his time, because of its emphasis on rituals and ineffective kicks. Bimba encouraged adding new kicks to capoeira, as long as they were effective and incorporated into the basic footwork, ''ginga''. The 2007 Pan American Games, 15th Pan-American Games were held in Rio de Janeiro (city), Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, between 13 July 2007 and 29 July 2007. The Brazilian delegation consisted of 659 athletes (373 men and 286 women) and 267 directors, making a total of 926 people in 41 sports. Competing in their own country, the Brazilian athletes managed to far surpass their own record number of Gold, Silver and Bronze medals obtained in a single edition of the Pan-American Games. Goals The Rio de Janeiro Mayor and Brazilian Olympic Group wanted to show that Brazil is capable to receive the 2014 World Cup, for which is the only candidate so far, and that the city is eligible to host the 2016 Summer Olympics. Juan Bimba is a fictitious character used in the past as the national personification of Venezuela, but is now regarded as obsolete. According to the local folklore of the region of Cumaná the name comes from a mentally ill local inhabitant of the 1850s; but this version is doubtful.
