Poltava Oblast ( uk, Полта́вська о́бласть, translit=Poltavska oblast; also referred to as Poltavshchyna – uk, Полта́вщина, literally 'Poltava Country') is an oblast (province) of central Ukraine. Budini
The Budini (Ancient Greek: Βουδίνοι; ''Boudínoi'') was a group of people (a tribe) described by Herodotus and several later classical authors. Described as nomads living near settled Gelonians, Herodotus located them east of the Tanais river (which is usually assumed to correspond with modern Don River) beyond the Sarmatians. Pliny the Elder mentions the Budini together with the Geloni and other peoples living around the rivers which drain into the Black Sea from the north. During the European Scythian campaign of Darius I, in which the Persian king invaded the Scythian lands of Eastern Europe, the Budini were allies of the Scythians. During the campaign, he captured and burnt down one of the Budini's large fortified cities. The Budini are also mentioned by Classical authors in connection with reindeer. Zenkovsky Uyezd
Zenkovsky Uyezd (russian: Зеньковский уезд, uk, Зіньківський повіт) was a subdivision (county) of the Poltava Governorate of the Russian Empire. It was situated in the eastern part of the governorate. Its administrative centre was Zenkov (Zinkiv). The uyezd was created in 1781 within the Chernigov Viceroyalty out of parts of Hadiach Regiment which contained territory of former Zinkiv Regiment. In 1796 the uyezd was dissolved and its territory was included into the revived Little Russia Governorate. In 1803 the uyezd was reinstated already within the Poltava Governorate. In 1923 the uyezd was liquidated with introductions of raions. Demographics At the time of the Russian Empire Census of 1897, Zenkovsky Uyezd had a population of 140,304.
