Billy Young (association Football)
Billy Young (born 1938 in Dublin) is a former Irish soccer player and manager, He represented Bohemian F.C. with distinction for nearly 30 years as player, coach and manager and was inducted into their Hall of Fame in November 2007. Playing career Young played for Bohemians from 1962 to 1969, captaining the club for the 1965–66 season. He was a tough defender who won an international amateur cap for Ireland against Great Britain in August 1967. Managerial career Young broke into management at Athlone Town who were reelected back into the League of Ireland for the first time in 41 years. However, he resigned in December 1969. M He managed Shamrock Rovers for six months during the 1971–72 season until his dismissal in November 1971. He returned home to Dalymount when he was appointed manager of the club in July 1973 as successor to Seán Thomas. He held this position for 16 years until he was sacked on 9 November 1989. The League of Ireland Cup ( ga, Corn Sraithe na hÉireann), also referred to in Ireland as the 'League Cup', is an annual knockout competition in men's football in the Republic of Ireland. It is contested by League of Ireland clubs and invited clubs from the lower levels of the Republic of Ireland football league system. It has been sponsored by Electronic Arts and branded the EA Sports Cup since 2009. The competition began in 1973–74, replacing the League of Ireland Shield and the Dublin City Cup. It has had several formats since its inception and has been a knock-out competition since 2005. As there is no European qualification for winners of the League of Ireland Cup, it has a lower status than the FAI Cup and is therefore seen as the third most important trophy in the Irish playing season. Professional Footballers Association Of Ireland
The Professional Footballers' Association of Ireland (PFAI) is the representative body for professional and semi-professional footballers in Republic of Ireland. Players from all nationalities in the League of Ireland are represented, not just Irish players. It is a member of FIFPro; the international body for similar organisations, and the Irish Congress of Trade Unions. The PFAI's current chairman is Brendan Clarke. The highest profile activities of the PFAI is the annual Players' Player of the Year and Young Player of the Year awards. These winners of these awards are voted for by member players and members cannot vote for one of their clubmates. Paul McGrath is currently the only man to win the award in Ireland and also win the PFA Players' Player of the Year award in England. The PFAI linked up with the Ireland WNT to improve their conditions in April 2017.
