Billy Thomson (footballer, Born 1958)
William Marshall Thomson (10 February 1958 – February 2023) was a Scottish footballer who played as a goalkeeper. Thomson played for Partick Thistle, St Mirren, Dundee United, Clydebank, Motherwell, Rangers and Dundee. He played for Dundee United in the 1987 UEFA Cup Final and two Scottish Cup finals. He won seven international caps for Scotland between 1980 and 1983. Thomson was a goalkeeping coach with Dundee, Rangers, Kilmarnock and Stranraer. Linwood () is a town in Renfrewshire in the west central Lowlands of Scotland, west of Glasgow. Partick Thistle Football Club are a professional association football, football club from Glasgow, Scotland and currently plays in the . Despite their name, the club are based at Firhill Stadium in the Maryhill area of the city, and have not played in Partick since 1908. Terry Venables
Terence Frederick Venables (6 January 1943 – 25 November 2023), often referred to as El Tel, was an English football player and manager who played for clubs including Chelsea, Tottenham Hotspur and Queens Park Rangers and won two caps for England. As a manager, Venables won the Second Division championship with Crystal Palace in 1979. He reached the 1982 FA Cup Final with Queens Park Rangers and won the Second Division in 1983. With Barcelona, he won La Liga in 1985 and reached the 1986 European Cup Final. He guided Tottenham Hotspur to victory in the 1991 FA Cup Final. He also managed Middlesbrough and Leeds United. The 1986–87 UEFA Cup was the 16th season of the UEFA Cup, the third-tier club football competition organised by the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA). The final was played over two legs at the Ullevi, Gothenburg, Sweden, and at Tannadice Park, Dundee, Scotland. The competition was won by IFK Göteborg of Sweden, who defeated Dundee United of Scotland by an aggregate result of 2–1 to claim their second title. Hamish McAlpine
Hamish Robert McAlpine (born 21 January 1948) is a Scottish retired footballer who played as a goalkeeper. He played for Dundee United for twenty years, between 1966 and 1986. Whilst with the club, he won the Scottish Football League title once and the Scottish League Cup twice. Among numerous cup runs in European football he played in the 1983–84 European Cup semi-final. He ended his playing career with spells at Raith Rovers and Arbroath. McAlpine represented Scotland at under-21 international level and was named SFWA Footballer of the Year in 1985. Jim McLean
James Yuille McLean (2 August 1937 – 26 December 2020) was a Scottish football player, manager and director. He managed Dundee United between 1971 and 1993, becoming the longest-serving and most successful manager in the club's history, winning three major honours. He was also part-time assistant manager to Jock Stein with the Scotland national team. He led Dundee United to their only Scottish Football League title in 1982–83, following Scottish League Cup wins in 1979 and 1980. Under McLean, the club also lost in a further eight domestic cup finals. In European football, McLean's Dundee United reached the European Cup semi-finals in 1984 and the UEFA Cup final in 1987. Alex Miller (born 4 July 1949) is a Scottish football manager and former player. As a player, he had a 15-year career with Rangers, winning several trophies. As a manager, he won the 1991–92 Scottish League Cup with Hibernian. He subsequently worked for Premier League club Liverpool for nine years, assisting Gérard Houllier and Rafael Benítez. Laurent Roussey (born 27 December 1961) is a French football manager and former player, who played as a striker. He was most recently manager of Lyon-Duchère. Jim Clunie
Jim Clunie (4 September 1933 – 12 May 2003) was a Scottish football player and manager. Clunie played in three cup finals for Aberdeen. These were the 1954 and 1959 Scottish Cup Finals, which they lost 2–1 to Celtic and 3–1 to St Mirren, and the 1955 Scottish League Cup Final which Aberdeen won 2–1 against St Mirren. He transferred to St Mirren in 1960, for whom he played in the 1962 Scottish Cup Final. Clunie was the first player to be substituted in a Scottish match, when he was replaced by Archie Gemmill after 23 minutes of the Scottish League Cup tie against Clyde on 13 August 1966. In 1976, Clunie was a coach at Southampton when the club won the FA Cup by beating Manchester United 1-0 in the 1976 FA Cup Final.
