Bill Flanagan (born January 14, 1955) is an American author, television executive and radio host. He was born in Rhode Island and graduated from Brown University in 1977. His books include ''Written in My Soul'' (1986), ''Last of the Moe Haircuts'' (1986), ''U2 at the End of the World'' (1995), and the novels ''A&R'' (2000), ''New Bedlam'' (2007), ''Evening's Empire'' (2010), and ''Fifty in Reverse'' (2020). He is the screenwriter for the documentary ''Jimmy Carter: Rock n Roll President'' (August 2020) and produced Audible's best-seller ''Breakshot: James Taylor'' (2020) as well as Audible projects with St. Vincent: “St. Vincent: Words + Music” and Smokey Robinson (2020). From 1995 until 2015 he was an executive at MTV Networks, retiring as Executive Vice President of the Viacom Music Group. Bill Flanagan (academic)
William F. Flanagan (born 1960) is a Canadian academic. In March 2020, his appointment was announced as the next president of the University of Alberta, succeeding David H. Turpin in July 2020. He previously served as the dean of the faculty of law at Queen's University from to 2005 to 2019. Flanagan was born in Edmonton, Alberta, the son of two teachers. In his teen years, he worked as a page in the Canadian House of Commons, where his maternal uncle Jack Horner was a Member of Parliament. He attended Carleton University where he earned a Bachelor of Arts degree, then the University of Toronto Faculty of Law, earning a J.D. degree in 1985. He also earned a DEA from the University of Paris in 1986 and a master's degree in law from Columbia Law School in 1989. Bill Flanagan was an Australian rugby league footballer who played in the 1920s. He played for University in the New South Wales Rugby League (NSWRL) competition. Playing career Flanagan made his first grade debut for University against Western Suburbs in Round 12 1926 at the Sydney Cricket Ground. Flanagan scored a try in the 20-8 victory. In 1926, University went on to finish 4th on the table and qualified for their first finals campaign. The Students went on to defeat Glebe in the preliminary final.
