Bill Buckley (rugby League)
William George Buckley (8 August 1906 – 17 April 1973) was an Australian rugby league footballer and administrator. Playing career A Rugby league positions#The front row, front rower, Buckley played 75 lower grade matches for Newtown Jets, Newtown. He broke his leg in the 1928 NSWRFL season and his first grade career was over. Administrative career After playing, Buckley joined the New South Wales Rugby Football League General Committee as delegate of Newtown in 1940. When NSWRFL president Jersey Flegg died in 1960, Buckley replaced him and also became Chairman of the Australian Rugby League, a position he remained in from 1960 until his death in 1973. He was replaced as NSWRFL president by Kevin Humphreys (rugby league), Kevin Humphreys. St James' Church, Sydney
St James' Church, commonly known as St James', King Street, is an Australian heritage-listed Anglican parish church located at 173 King Street, in the Sydney central business district in New South Wales. Consecrated in February 1824 and named in honour of St James the Great, it became a parish church in 1835. Designed in the style of a Georgian town church by the transported convict architect Francis Greenway during the governorship of Lachlan Macquarie, St James' is part of the historical precinct of Macquarie Street which includes other early colonial era buildings such as the World Heritage listed Hyde Park Barracks. The church remains historically, socially and architecturally significant. The building is the oldest one extant in Sydney's inner city region. It was added to the New South Wales State Heritage Register on 3 September 2004; and was listed on the (now defunct) Register of the National Estate. Robert Askin
Sir Robert William Askin, GCMG (4 April 1907 – 9 September 1981), was an Australian politician and the 32nd Premier of New South Wales from 1965 to 1975, the first representing the Liberal Party. He was born in 1907 as Robin William Askin, but always disliked his first name and changed it by deed poll in 1971. Before being knighted in 1972, however, he was generally known as Bob Askin. Born in Sydney in 1907, Askin was educated at Sydney Technical High School. After serving as a bank officer and as a Sergeant in the Second World War, Askin joined the Liberal Party and was elected to the seat of Collaroy at the 1950 election. Askin quickly rose through party ranks, eventually becoming Deputy Leader following Walter Howarth's resignation in July 1954. When long-serving party leader Vernon Treatt announced his resignation in August 1954, Askin put his name forward to replace him. Eastern Suburbs Memorial Park
Eastern Suburbs Memorial Park, Eastern Suburbs Crematorium and Botany General Cemetery (aka Botany Cemetery), is a cemetery and crematorium on Bunnerong Road in Matraville, New South Wales, in the eastern suburbs district of Sydney, Australia. Land was dedicated as a cemetery site in 1888, with the first interment recorded at Botany Cemetery on 21 August 1893. The Bunnerong Cemetery (opened in 1888), and the Eastern Suburbs Crematorium (opened 1938) were merged with Botany Cemetery in 1972. There are more than 65,000 people buried there. A memorial park, Pioneer Park, is also within the grounds. History and management The cemetery was created as Bunnerong Cemetery in 1888, in order to accommodate unclaimed remains from the Devonshire Street Cemetery.
