William Austin (English Writer)
William Austin (1587–1634) was an English miscellaneous writer. He was a barrister of Lincoln's Inn, and resided for many years in Southwark, where he acquired a great local reputation. Works His works, which are mainly of a religious character, were all published posthumously, but in his lifetime he distributed copies of them among his friends, among whom he reckoned James Howell, the author of the ''Epistolæ Ho-Elianæ'', and his neighbour, Edward Alleyn, the founder of Dulwich College. Austin's name appeared, with those of the chief contemporary men of letters, on the proposed list of members of the Royal Academy of Literature, projected in 1620, but subsequently abandoned. Bill Austin (American Football, Born 1937)
Bill Austin ( – 2015) was an American college football and college lacrosse player. He played as a back for the Rutgers Scarlet Knights football team from 1956 to 1958 and was selected by the Associated Press as a first-team player on the 1958 All-America Team. He finished sixth in the voting for the Heisman Trophy in 1958, and he rushed for 2,073 yards and scored 204 points during his college football career at Rutgers. Austin also played lacrosse at Rutgers, earning honorable mention All-American accolades in 1958 and 1959. Lord William Piercy Austin (7 November 18079 November 1892) was the inaugural and long serving Bishop of Guyana from 1842 until his death. Life He was the son of William Austin (1759–1817), co-owner of the Land of Plenty plantation in British Guiana, and his wife Mehetabel Piercy; he was born in Stone, Staffordshire. He matriculated at Exeter College, Oxford in 1825, graduating B.A. 1829, and M.A. 1835. Ordained in 1831, Austin was in rapid succession curate, vicar and Rural Dean of Georgetown, then Archdeacon and Bishop. He was consecrated a bishop at Westminster Abbey on 24 August 1842, to serve as first Bishop of British Guiana. William Austin (1721 – 11 May 1820, Brighton) was an English artist, drawing-master, engraver and caricaturist. A rival of Matthew Darly, he used a distinctive grainy, woodblock-like style. Life and work Austin, was born in London in 1721. He was a pupil of George Bickham, but after having engraved a few plates, chiefly landscapes of no great merit, he relinquished the practice of the art, and devoted the remainder of his life to teaching drawing, first in London and afterwards in Brighton, Sussex. William Crosby Percy Austin (12 June 1884 – 15 June 1975) was an English character actor. He was the first actor to play Alfred in a Batman adaptation. William Lee Austin (October 18, 1928 – May 22, 2013) was an American football player and coach in the National Football League (NFL). He played as a lineman for the New York Giants for seven seasons, was the head coach of the Pittsburgh Steelers for three seasons, (1966–1968) and one for the Washington Redskins in 1970. Poems on the wedding of Charles II On the marriage of Charles II with Catherine of Braganza, Austin wrote two poems to celebrate the union, which were "presented to their majesties" on their passage down the Thames from Hampton Court to Whitehall (23 Aug. 1662).
