''Big House Blues'' is a 1947 Color Rhapsody that is part of the Flippy and Flop series. Synopsis Flippy the canary reads a book on crime, and sees his cage as a cell and himself as stir-crazy. He escapes, only to be pursued by his enemy, Flop, now a prison guard. Flippy later wakes up and finds out it was all a dream only to beat up Flop. Television This short apparence in Totally Tooned In episode 15 and in Toon In with Me from MeTV in February 3, 2022. Roy Jenkins
Roy Harris Jenkins, Baron Jenkins of Hillhead, (11 November 1920 – 5 January 2003) was a British politician who served as President of the European Commission from 1977 to 1981. At various times a Member of Parliament (MP) for the Labour Party, Social Democratic Party (SDP) and the Liberal Democrats, he was Chancellor of the Exchequer and Home Secretary under the Wilson and Callaghan Governments. The son of Arthur Jenkins, a coal-miner and Labour MP, Jenkins was educated at the University of Oxford and served as an intelligence officer during the Second World War. Initially elected as MP for Southwark Central in 1948, he moved to become MP for Birmingham Stechford in 1950. On the election of Harold Wilson after the 1964 election, Jenkins was appointed Minister of Aviation. A year later, he was promoted to the Cabinet to become Home Secretary. Eddie Kilfeather
Edward Vincent (Eddie) Kilfeather (April 5, 1900, Portland, Oregon - January 13, 1950, Los Angeles, California) was a musical composer and arranger who worked on the Columbia Pictures' animated cartoons. Kilfeather was born in 1900 to Edward and Hannah Kilfeather and grew up in Portland, Oregon. His father was a well-known Democrat found guilty of jury bribing in 1898. The young Kilfeather hooked up with another Portlander, George Olsen, who had formed a band and was its pianist, conductor and arranger. The band headed south and in San Francisco when it was hired by Flo Ziegfeld in 1923 to come to New Year to play music for the show '' Kid Boots''. Kilfeather co-wrote the song ''Goin' Home Blues'' for the show. Ziegfeld became enraged with the band after the opening of ''Whoopee!'' in 1928. ''Color Rhapsody'' is a series of usually one-shot animated cartoon shorts produced by Charles Mintz's studio Screen Gems for Columbia Pictures. They were launched in 1934, following the phenomenal success of Walt Disney's Technicolor ''Silly Symphonies'' and Warner Bros.' ''Merrie Melodies''. Because of Disney's exclusive rights to the full three strip Technicolor process, ''Color Rhapsody'' were produced in the older two-tone Technicolor process until 1935, when Disney's exclusive contract expired. Flippity And Flop
Flippity and Flop are a pair of cartoon characters, an anthropomorphic cat and canary duo. They appeared in theatrical shorts from 1945 to 1947 by Screen Gems for Columbia Pictures. The characters were voiced by Harry E. Lang, while Flop has a speaking role in ''Cagey Bird'' and ''Silent Tweetment'' by Frank Graham and Flippity in the end of '' Big House Blues'' by Bill Shaw. The antics of Flop the cat and Flippity the Canary were similar to that of Tweety and Sylvester of Warner Bros. However unlike Tweety, Flippity had to rely on Sam the household Dog to protect him from Flop. Flippity and Flop only appeared in five cartoons before Screen Gems was replaced by United Productions of America in 1948 with Screen Gems final cartoon releasing the following year.
