It is a secondary vocational school located on the Biddeford High School campus for students enrolled at Biddeford High School, Kennebunk High School, Old Orchard Beach High School and Thornton Academy. History The Biddeford Regional Center of Technology was established in 1969 with the goal that students who enroll acquire academic, career and industry-recognized technical skills that will prepare them for entry into the workforce and post-secondary education, which has led to several community projects led and completed by Biddeford Regional Center of Technology students, including creating the 2018 emblem for the Coast Guard Academy. Biddeford is a city in York County, Maine, United States. It is the principal commercial center of York County. Its population was 22,552 at the 2020 census. The twin cities of Saco and Biddeford include the resort communities of Biddeford Pool and Fortunes Rocks. Biddeford High School (BHS) is a public high school in Biddeford, Maine, United States. It is the secondary school for Biddeford Public Schools, a school district which exclusively serves the city of Biddeford. History The first public high school in Biddeford was established in 1848. The building for the high school was erected on Washington Street close to the city's downtown. After a rise in Biddeford's population in the late 19th-century, a new high school was constructed in 1888 on a lot in close-by Alfred Street. The former high school building on Washington Street was then converted to a primary school before being demolished in the 1960s. The high school moved to its new building in 1890. The Alfred Street building suffered a massive fire in 1893 and was promptly rebuilt. A rear annex and gymnasium were added in 1925. Kennebunk High School is a public high school located in Kennebunk, Maine, United States. It is part of Maine Regional School Unit 21 for the towns Arundel, Kennebunk and Kennebunkport. It is the secondary school for Regional School Unit (RSU) 23, a school district which exclusively serves the town of Old Orchard Beach. Thornton Academy (often abbreviated as TA) is a co-educational, independent boarding and day school serving grades 9–12 located in Saco, Maine. Thornton Academy also opened a full-time, private junior high school on its campus, named Thornton Academy Middle School, which serves grades 6-8 for Saco, Dayton, Arundel students. History Thornton Academy was first established in 1811, under the name "Saco Academy" in response to a petition by citizens of southern Maine, most of them from Saco, to the Massachusetts legislature, which passed, in both houses, a bill founding the school in February 1811. The founding legislation also granted, as was common, one half a township or in northern Maine (most of what is currently the southern part of Greenville) as an endowment so long as the trustees named in the founding charter raised US$3,000 in funds. United States Coast Guard Academy
The United States Coast Guard Academy (USCGA) is a service academy of the United States Coast Guard in New London, Connecticut. Founded in 1876, it is the smallest of the five U.S. service academies and provides education to future Coast Guard officers in one of nine major fields of study. Students are officers-in-training and are referred to as cadets, and upon graduation receive a Bachelor of Science degree and are commissioned as Coast Guard ensigns with a five-year active-duty service obligation, with additional years if the graduate attends flight school or subsequent government-funded graduate school. York County Community College (YCCC) is a public community college in Wells, Maine. YCCC is part of the Maine Community College System. History York County Community College was established in 1994 as York County Technical College (YCTC) by the 116th Maine Legislature.
