Biathlon At The 2018 Winter Olympics – Men's Sprint
The men's 10 km sprint biathlon competition of the Pyeongchang 2018 Olympics was held on 11 February 2018 at the Alpensia Biathlon Centre in Pyeongchang, South Korea. The event was won by Arnd Peiffer, with Michal Krčmář taking silver and Dominik Windisch bronze. This was the first individual Olympic medal for both Peiffer and Windisch, whereas for Krčmář, this was the first Olympic medal. Summary The 2014 champion, Ole Einar Bjørndalen, did not qualify for the event, and only the silver medalist, Dominik Landertinger, was competing. The field also included the 2010 silver, Emil Hegle Svendsen, and bronze, Jakov Fak, medalists. None of them were in medal contention during the event. The early leader was Julian Eberhard, whose result was first improved by Peiffer. Krčmář finished second, and subsequently Windisch third, moving Eberhard down to fourth. Alpensia Biathlon Centre
Alpensia Cross-Country Skiing Centre (알펜시아 크로스컨트리 경기장) and Alpensia Biathlon Centre (알펜시아 바이애슬론 경기장) are sport venues in the Alpensia resort, located in Daegwallyeong-myeon, Pyeongchang-gun, Gangwon-do, South Korea. They are used for cross-country skiing and biathlon respectively. Each grandstand of the two venues is contiguous and similar in appearance. They also adjoin the ski jumping hills. In the non-winter season, the venues are also used as golf courses named Alpensia 700. History The venues were first completed in December 1995. They were called several names, which roughly mean the Gangwon (Kangwon) provincial Nordic venue. They hosted the cross-country skiing and biathlon events at the 1999 Asian Winter Games. Sebastian Samuelsson (born 28 March 1997) is a Swedish biathlete who competes internationally. He participated in the 2018 Winter Olympics. There he won a silver medal in the 12.5 km pursuit event as well as the gold medal in the relay. He became a World champion at 2023 Oberhof when he won gold medal in 15 km Mass start race. Samuelsson has been outspoken on his views on the presence of doping in the sport, and has especially been critical of Russia and its anti-doping agency RUSADA. Tarjei Bø (born 29 July 1988) is a Norwegian professional biathlete. Awarded Olympic gold medals, World Championship gold medals and World Cup victories from 2010 to 2022. Bø debuted in the Biathlon World Cup on 26 March 2009 in Khanty-Mansiysk, Russia. In the 2010 Winter Olympics he earned his first gold medal in the 4 × 7.5 km biathlon relay. Erik Lesser (born 17 May 1988) is a German former biathlete. In 2010, he ran his first single World Cup Race. At the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi, he won a silver medal at Men's individual. At the Biathlon World Championships 2013 he won a bronze medal with the German team in Men's relay. His grandfather Axel Lesser competed in cross-country skiing for East Germany at the 1976 Winter Olympics.
