Bia East District
Bia East District is one of the nine districts in Western North Region, Ghana. It was formerly part of the then-larger Bia District until the Eastern part was split off in 2012 to form the Bia East District while the Western part was renamed as Bia West District.The district assembly is located in the northwest part of Western North Region and has Sefwi Adabokrom as its capital town. The larger Bia District was created from the former Sefwi-Bibiani District in 2004. Districts Of Ghana
The Districts of Ghana are second-level administrative subdivisions of Ghana, below the level of region. There are 261 local metropolitan, municipal and district assemblies (or MMDA's). History The districts of Ghana were re-organized in 1988/1989 in an attempt to decentralize the government and to assist in development. The reform of the late 1980s subdivided the regions of Ghana into 110 districts, where local district assemblies should deal with the local administration. By 2006, an additional 28 districts were created by splitting some of the original 110, bringing their number up to 138. In February 2008, there were more districts created and some were upgraded to municipal status. This brought the final number to 170 districts in Ghana. Since then, a further 46 districts have been added since 28 June 2012 bringing the total to 216 districts. Western North Region
The Western North Region is one of the six new regions of Ghana created in 2019. The region is bounded by the Ivory Coast ( Comoé District) on the west, the Central region in the southeast, and the Ashanti, Ahafo, Bono East and Bono regions in the north. The Regions of Ghana constitute the first level of subnational government administration within the Republic of Ghana. As of 2020, there are currently sixteen regions, which are further divided for administrative purposes into 260 local metropolitan, municipal and district assemblies (or MMDA's). Sefwi Adabokrom
Adabokrom is a town in Western North Region of Ghana. It is the capital of Bia East. Adabokrom was named the District capital after Bia East District split from Bia District in 2012. Adabokrom is about 250 km west of Kumasi. The town is noted for cocoa production. History The settlement of Adabokrom began in the twentieth century driven by an upsurge of the cocoa industry. According to oral histories, until cocoa Adabokrom was a dense forest zone with one hamlet. Geology The soil in this zone is mainly of the ferric acrisols and dystricfluvisols type. Ferric acrisols cover about 98% of the District, which supports the cultivation of crops including cocoa, coffee, oil palm, plantain, cocoyam and cassava, and other vegetables. Economy Migrant cocoa farmers such as Asantes,Bonos, Kusasis, the Ahantas, Ewes, settled in Adabokrom. Asunafo North Municipal District is one of the six districts in Ahafo Region, Ghana.
