Bhupathi, Bhupati, Bhoopathi or Boopathi is a name and also surname native to India. The name is a combination of two Sanskrit words ''Bhu'' (Goddess of Earth, an incarnation of Lakshmi) and ''Pathi'' (husband), which literally means "Husband of Bhu" i. e., Lord Vishnu. These words can also be described as ''Bhu'' (land) and ''Pathi'' (lord), which literally means ''Lord of the land''. Bhumi ( sa, भूमि, Bhūmi), also known as Bhudevi and Vasundhara, is a Hindu goddess who is the personification of the Earth. She is a consort of the god Vishnu. Lakshmi (; , sometimes spelled Laxmi, ), also known as Shri (, ), is one of the principal goddesses in Hinduism. Mahesh Shrinivas Bhupathi (born 7 June 1974) is an Indian former doubles world No. 1 tennis player. In 1997, he became the first Indian to win a major tournament (with Rika Hiraki). ''Nasikabatrachus bhupathi'', or Bhupathy's purple frog, is a frog species belonging to the family Nasikabatrachidae. It can be found in the Western Ghats in India and was discovered near the Srivilliputhur Grizzled Giant Squirrel Wildlife Sanctuary. The specific epithet honors the late Indian herpetologist Subramanian Bhupathy (1963–2014) Taxonomy ''Nasikabatrachus bhupathi'' and ''Nasikabatrachus sahyadrensis'' have been found to be related to other frogs that live in the Seychelles, which are closer to Africa than to India.
