The Beverly Hills Public Library (abbreviated BHPL) is a public library in Beverly Hills, California. Location The library is located next door to the BHPD headquarters, opposite the Beverly Hills Fire Department, and near the Beverly Hills City Hall. History On December 23, 1929, the Beverly Hills City Council passed an ordinance creating a Municipal Public Library. The city rented a small space in the E. J. Krause Building, located at 401 North Canon Drive. A three-member Library Board supervised the library with appropriations from the general fund. By 1930, Beverly Hills' population had reached 17,428. With a collection of 10,288 volumes, 5,152 registered borrowers, and an annual circulation of 100,797, the library outgrew its limited shelving space and needed to move. The Beverly Hills Police Department (BHPD) is the police department of the City of Beverly Hills, California. History The first law enforcement agency was formed shortly after the City of Beverly Hills was incorporated in 1914. The first city marshal was Augustus Niestrum with a deputy named Jack Munson whose home also served as the headquarters for both the city's Fire and Police Departments. A year later the department was expanded with addition of another officer. Two further officers joined in 1916. When Deputy Munson retired in 1919, the new City Marshal served as both Fire and Police Chief. After eight years in combined quarters, the Fire and Police Departments were separated in 1925. Michael James Stilkey Jr. (born October 15, 1975) is an American artist known for his book sculpture paintings. Early life Mike Stilkey was born in Tarzana, California, and spent his childhood moving from city to city primarily in the Los Angeles area.
