Beverley Holloway
Beverley Anne Holloway (born October 1931) is a New Zealand entomologist. Holloway is a preeminent lucanid systematist and was awarded the New Zealand Commemoration Medal in 1990 for services to New Zealand as a scientist. She has also been elected a Fellow of the Entomological Society of New Zealand. Biography Holloway was born in Lower Hutt in October 1931. She was educated at Stokes Valley School and Wellington Girls' College before completing a Bachelor of Science degree in 1952 at Victoria University College in Wellington. After graduating, Holloway worked as an assistant entomologist at the Dominion Museum. She continued to undertake part-time study at the Victoria until 1954 when she completed a master's degree with first-class honours in zoology. Holloway was awarded a Fulbright Scholarship in 1955 and as a result spent three years at the Harvard Biological Laboratory. Entomology () is the science, scientific study of insects, a branch of zoology. ''Pounamuella hollowayae'' is a species of Orsolobidae. The species is endemic to New Zealand. Taxonomy This species was described as ''Pounamua hollowayi'' in 1956 by Ray Forster from male and female specimens collected in Fiordland. It was redescribed as ''Pounamuella hollowayae'' in 1985. The holotype is stored in Canterbury Museum. Description The male is recorded at 1.41mm in length whereas the female is 2.01mm. Distribution This species is only known from Fiordland, New Zealand. ''Plectophanes hollowayae'' is a species of araneomorph spider in the family Cycloctenidae. This species is endemic to New Zealand and was first described by Ray Forster in 1964 and named in honour of Beverley Holloway. The holotype specimen was collected by Beverley Holloway and Richard Dell at Solomon Island, off Stewart Island, during the 1955 Dominion Museum expedition. Taxonomy ''Plectophanes hollowayae'' is a member of the family Cycloctenidae. It was described by Ray Forster in 1964 and named in honour of one of the collectors, Beverly Holloway. Originally described in the family Toxopidae, Forster later transferred all members of the genus ''Plectophanes'' to Cycloctenidae. The original species name was ''Plectophanes hollowayi,'' but this was later corrected to ''P. hollowayae.'' Fannia Hollowayae
Fannia (fl. around 100 AD) was a woman of ancient Rome, notable as the granddaughter of Arria Major. Life Fannia is recorded in the writings of Pliny the Younger as a woman of fortitude and respectability. As with her grandmother, Fannia is described as a political rebel in her own right. She was married to Helvidius Priscus and followed him twice into exile, once by Nero for sympathising with two outcasts (Brutus and Cassius), then by Vespasian for opposing his reign. Eventually, Fannia herself was exiled in 93 AD for instigating the creation and publication of a biographical book about her husband under the rule of Domitian. The execution of Herennius Senecio for his own involvement gives us insight into this "mild" sentence of hers. During the trial of Senecio, he blamed the book on Fannia as she had asked him to write it, a statement that Fannia confirmed. Allograpta Hollowayae
''Allograpta '' is a very large and diverse genus of hoverflies present throughout the world except most of the palearctic region. The adults are brightly coloured flower pollinators and most larvae have a predatory feeding mode involving soft-bodied sternorrhynchans. Certain species have diverged from this and their larvae have been found to be leaf-miners, stem-borers or pollen-feeders. ''Allograpta'' is currently being studied using both molecular and morphological methods to produce a robust phylogeny of the genus and its related genera. Preliminary studies show the genus to be monophyletic with the genera ''Sphaerophoria'' and ''Exallandra'' placed within which obviously complicates matters.
